Publisher's summary

Everybody's worried about Becky. She's too rich, too young, and much too cute for her own good. And she's driving her friends and family to distraction, playing fast and loose with the bored housewives she meets through Girl Power, the offshoot of Marsten Builders, which she co-runs with her best friend, Frankie.

When she hears Niamh busking in the center of town, Becky is stunned by the intensity of her attraction to the itinerant young musician. The feeling is mutual. For Niamh, Becky has a familiar feel that reminds her of the home and family she has lost, and she quickly finds herself looking for ways to meet this intriguing young woman again.

Both women are deeply wary of any kind of new relationship. Their early experiences have left them wounded and vulnerable. But for some reason, they can't help but trust each other.

But even as the pair are taking their first shaky steps toward love, they begin to realize that their apparent chance meeting is already part of a much bigger drama unfolding. Events of the past are starting to catch up with them, and they are about to be faced with challenges and decisions that will change their lives forever....

Spoiler free reccomendation

This book bills itself as “a lesbian mystery romance”

The audiobook is pretty good, and I like the format of the story.

There was a point where I was like, “Wait, what?” because there is a point when the story I thought I was listening to turned out to be another story altogether. Looking back, I kind of see a lot of places where the author sets the story up as if it’s going to go one way, but, no, it’s a red herring.

Surely you Jess!

She made me feel as if I was a woman in this one. Maeve remains me of Mrs.Flecher(murder she wrote),but funnier. Off to my next Adventure.

I highly recommend this, and any other book by Jane Retzig.

I find it a bit difficult to review Jane Retzig's books because of the depth of emotions her stories elicit by the time I've arrived at the final word. This story is no different. Maybe it's even more powerful than the rest. I love that it comes full circle right at the end. The narration is wonderful as well.

Love Story Without A Happy Ending

The story winds through the lives of two women; one gay, one bi who meet, fall in love, and are then struck by tragedy. All of this happens within a few days and though I could feel the unhappy ending coming, it was still difficult. Strong, yet very well written human characters with flaws and peccadilloes, this bittersweet love story is a heartwarming, good listening work. The narrator does a good job; the ancillary characters are well done, this story is very much worth the credit.

So sweet.

Made me cry. I both loved and hated the ending. I will probably listen to this again.

Downer

Well written. However, I do not consider it a romance. It is more of a tragedy. I guess my review would be higher it is was put in the correct category and I was prepared to read a tragedy when I was more expecting an escape from reality.

this isn't a romance

A short note to warn potential listeners: this is listed as romance and is in the romance package but it fails the most critical part of a romance genre novel. Specifically, the ending is neither happily ever after nor happy for now. This is why I'm giving it one star; the ending is not what I read romance novels for, and I'm a little bit angry at the author for this ending.
