Publisher's Summary

Born a slave in Maryland, Harriet Tubman knew first-hand what it meant to be someone's property; she was whipped by owners and almost killed by an overseer. It was from other field hands that she first heard about the Underground Railroad which she travelled by herself north to Philadelphia. Throughout her long life (she died at the age of 92) and long after the Civil War brought an end to slavery, this amazing woman was proof of what just one person can do.

A Heroic Woman

A great story that all kids should hear! The story of Harriet Tubman is a great history lesson that my 9 and 6 year old listened to in two settings while coloring a picture of Harriet. We used this as part of our study on Abraham Lincoln and the civil war for our homeschooling lessons to help change the pace.

The narrator is not overly exciting but the history is and the story is full of adventurous facts. My kids and I enjoyed it.
