Audie Award Nominee, Solo Narration - Female, 2013

Of especially naughty children it is sometimes said, "They must have been raised by wolves."
The Incorrigible children actually were.
Since returning from London, the three Incorrigible children and their plucky governess, Miss Penelope Lumley, have been exceedingly busy. Despite their wolfish upbringing, the children have taken up bird-watching, with no unfortunate consequences - yet. And a perplexing gift raises hard questions about how Penelope came to be left at the Swanburne Academy for Poor Bright Females and why her parents never bothered to return for her.
But hers is not the only family mystery to solve. When Lord Fredrick's long-absent mother arrives with the noted explorer Admiral Faucet, gruesome secrets tumble out of the Ashton family tree. And when the admiral's prized racing ostrich gets loose in the forest, it will take all the Incorrigibles' skills to find her.
The hunt for the runaway ostrich is on. But Penelope is worried. Once back in the wild, will the children forget about books and poetry and go back to their howling, wolfish ways? What if they never want to come back to Ashton Place at all?

Perfect story and perfect narration!

The Unseen Guest is Book 3 in Maryrose Wood's The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place series. The series is intended for children ages 10 to 12, but I love it despite the fact I've been outside that age range for more than six decades. Although each book stands on its own, it is best to read themi n order written.

Katherine Kellgren performs books rather than merely narrating them. In my opinion she is the best.

For whom do I recommend this audio book series? Everyone regardless of age except for those with a permanently sour outlook on life.

Excellent all around!

Katherine Kellgren does an AMAZING job with all of these books! The stories are wonderful in themselves, but made even better by the performance of Katherine Kellgren! I look forward to the next book and the next performance!

a British review

I was initially dubious about these books- written, I think, by an American but set in Victorian Britain. There are a couple of places where the language doesn't sit comfortably with me. E.g. the "holiday ball". We almost never refer to Christmas as "holiday" [I am willing to be corrected if Victorian Brits did use that terminology]. However, I got sucked in. The stories are delightful. The performance is a rather over the top affair, a sort of hammed up British accent (done by an American), but then, so is the story! Kellgren's depiction of each character is fabulous and wonderfully elaborate. So, yes, I thoroughly enjoy the stories and their audio version, even with my prejudice as a British listener!
