Publisher's summary

Owen, Kiel, and Bethany confront secrets, stolen memories, and some very familiar faces in the follow-up to the second book in the New York Times best-selling series The Story Thieves - which was called a "fast-paced, action-packed tale" by School Library Journal - from the author of the Half Upon a Time trilogy.

Owen Conners' whole life changed the day he found out his classmate Bethany was half fictional and could take him into any book in the library. Which story would they jump into next? Another fantasy, like the Kiel Gnomenfoot, Magic Thief books? Maybe something with superheroes? Owen's up for anything except mysteries - those just have too many hidden clues, twists that make no sense, and an ending you never see coming.

Then Owen wakes up in a real-life mystery with a memory that's been erased and too many questions. How did Kiel Gnomenfoot lose all of his magic? Where is Bethany? And who's the annoying guy wearing the question mark mask and Sherlock Holmes hat, taunting Owen and Kiel that Bethany is in grave danger?

Bethany is trapped in a hidden room that's slowly filling with water, and she can't escape until her friends find her. But is she imprisoned by more than just chains and a locked door? What's she hiding from Owen and Kiel?

This one is fun

This is the 2nd book in James Riley’s, The Story Thievespl series. I’m amazed by the twists and turns and change of direction this book takes. The first nine chapters have the narrator repeating, over and over and over, “missing text, missing text, missing text” with the odd line thrown in. In the print version, those chapters have pages of little back dashes indicating information is missing. Over the chapters that follow, the story moves forward by telling the story, but also filling in the missing chapters. It makes for an interesting read / listen. There is also a timer counting down from 2 hours (but not in real time). As a reader, or a listener, you really need to pay attention or find yourself jumping back for clarification. In the end though, it’s worth it and has me truly hooked! Wow! Going to get the next one!

Not cool

I really enjoy this app and so do my two boys. We read every night. So some nights it's nice just to listen as they drift off to sleep. We have just finished Harry Potter the third one and decided to get a different story. After searching for one that sounded interesting we decided on this one. Excited to listen we began downloading it on to hear "missing text missing text missing text" honestly I figured we'd let the entire thing download and it would work. Nope doesn't just says missing text all the way through. I have all four Harry Potter and two other stories that I listen to and have no problem with those. So for now I'm still ok with this app but don't waste your money on this story the stolen chapters

Doesn't work

I've tried loading & reloading multiple times. I can't find a place report a problem. "Missing text" is all we hear after the first paragraph. As my son said, "no wonder they call it "The Stolen Chapters"".

Missing Text

What disappointed you about The Stolen Chapters?

Keeps repeating missing text, super disappointing. When looking now at past review I notice others had same complaint and it still hasn't been addressed by audible.

Don't bother purchasing until it's fixed.

After the book downloads, it reads the introduction just fine. Beginning with the first chapter and continuing throughout, the reader will say a word and then keep repeating "missing text", say another word, then "missing text" again. Disappointing

DO NOT BUY - STILL MISSING AUDIO AS OF JULY 2017

Any additional comments?

As others have found, there is a TON of missing audio. I figured since the last reviews were several months old, surely it would be fixed by now. Nope.

There is something wrong with the recording.

My son got through 6 hours of this book and then quit because he was so frustrated. So I listened and there is obviously something wrong with the recording as of November 25th, 2017. I hope it gets fixed.

Missing Text, be patient!

This is a wonderful series. This book was very captivating to my 8 year old son and myself, and the audio performance was just stellar!

The bad reviews made me chuckle.

True, at the beginning of the book it just says "Missing Text", the occasional word, and then a new chapter starts. Don't lose your patience. It's just a hook. Read on! :)
