Christmas is coming! Bells jingle, sleds dash through the snow, trees are topped with sparkling stars, and children everywhere dream of candy canes and presents. But the best gift of all - the most magical gift of the season - is when we spend Christmas with those we love. New York Times best-selling author and artist Nancy Tillman has created a special book celebrating all ofthe special moments that become the holiday memories we carry throughout our lives. The audio program features Christmas carols performed by The St. Paul's Children's Choir including: "Jingle Bells", "We Wish You a Merry Christmas", "The Twelve Days of Christmas", "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear", "Joy to the World", "Deck the Halls", "Silent Night", and "The First Noel", as well as a reading of "A Visit from St. Nicholas", making this a true Christmas treasure.

A Children's Story And Christmas Carols

It would probably be best if you owned a copy of the book The Spirit of Christmas, because the illustrations are apparently quite pretty. The story is very sweet and nicely narrated.

Just as an overview this short book breaks down as follows. The first chapter is just a 3 minute read through of the book. The second chapter is the same read through with bells that ring to indicate when to turn the page in the book if you are reading along with the narration. The third chapter is a version of The Night Before Christmas, and the rest of the book is made up of Christmas carols sung by a children's choir.

This is probably best for younger children, but not so young that they need help turning the pages when the bell rings. I really think this recording needs both the book and an adult co-listener to get the most out of the experience. Without the book it's basically a 3+ minute poem/story and some children singing. In the end, I don't think the audio format works without being able to see the pictures.

not what we expected

Neither myself nor my kids enjoyed this. I knew there were Carol's but I thought they'd be mingled in with the stories. Nope. It was 90% choir singing (which we are not fans of) and maybe 2 Christmas stories/poems. Wish I had not purchased.
