Hilarious Insanity

Daniel Pinkwater's The Snarkout Boys and the Avocado of Death is funny and ridiculous and a great read (listen). I love hearing Daniel Pinkwater on NPR, and he does a wonderful job reading his own book. Unfortunately, now I have this intense craving for guacamole....

A Wonderful Story!

This book has become a requirement for our family road trips. We started listening to this book when my oldest was 6, now my youngest is a Pinkwater fan. I thought we were in trouble when out original tapes wore out but now we can continue to listen to this book for years. The audio quality isn't as good as the tape was but not bad by any means. I love listening to Danial Pinkwater read. He just has a voice that makes you smile.

A nice children's book

I was taken by prior reviews, thinking this might be akin to a Pratchett novel--amusing as a work of otherworld fiction, but tucking in some very satiric and witty adult observations. This is a book appropriate for the fourth or fifth grade. No more, no less. I hung on only by virtue of dogged determination and was unrewarded at the end by anything other than a sense of relief that it was over. By all means, tuck it onto your child's iPod, but don't go there yourself unless you need to put yourself to sleep on a transatlantic. Sound quality is not good; and the narrator sounded remarkably like he (as well as I) was nodding off from sheer boredom by Chapter 20, which was 20 chapters too long for any adult not seeking to rekindle a previous memory of "when this book was interesting." Be told.

Wonderfully wild and inventive.

Three unusual kids who meet snarking out which is going to the late night movie theatre. Based loosely on the authors youth and wonderfully inventive Sci-fi at its silliest thrown in. Meet some weird and wonderful adults and a super villain and an adventure in the late night city. These stories are from a time long gone when kids grew up a lot more independent. Wonderful stories I love as I got my first Pinkwater book as a kid. 48 years ago.

Very fun

Even though it's a quick read it is dense with silly humor. Highly recommended

A fun book for kids of all ages...

... but mostly the weird, fat ones! Good audio quality, the recording is old but it's still clear throughout.

a very good voice

Well voiced. it feels like a garrulous old uncle reading at the breathless clip of a kid. this makes the book (a classic in its own right and genre) easy to follow and enjoy

This book changed my life.

Daniel Pinkwater is the true king of children's books. Mind-expanding, innocent, and paradigm-busting literature that doesn't have any subservience-inducing subliminal programming in it. It's pretty expensive to get a paper copy of the original printing, and for very good reason. His entire body of work is worthwhile reading material for any age. Get it. Show it to your kids. You won't regret it.

Simply Amazing

Daniel Pinkwater has been my favorite author since a family member gave me his collection of 5 & 4 short stories. Even as an adult, I still read those books at least once a year.
Being able to listen to one of his masterpieces on audible gives me indescribable joy.
This story is a must listen/read for any fan of absurdist fiction, I can only hope that they someday add 'Alan Mendelson, the Boy from Mars' and the full version of 'Borgel' someday.
