What fun...to re-discover Nancy Drew after devouring every Nancy Drew book almost 35 years ago. Please Audible....obtain more of them for our listening pleasure! The narrator was very good and the musical interludes were so remnicent of the era and excitement of the story line.....great job.

What made the experience of listening to The Secret of the Old Clock the most enjoyable?
I loved the Nancy Drew series as a youngster, and it was so enjoyable to revisit the books so many years later. The narrator, Laura Linney, has a wonderful voice and provides a highly entertaining imitation of voices and inflections throughout the story. In addition, there is a noir style of music interlaced throughout the story, which lends a more sinister ambience as you follow the adventure!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Nancy is my favorite character, of course, but I've always enjoyed most of the characters in all of the Nancy Drew mysteries.
Which character – as performed by Laura Linney – was your favorite?
Any additional comments?
The first 34 Nancy Drew mysteries contained 25 chapters; they were later revised down to 20 chapters. While I prefer the original versions of the first 34 books and wish those were available in audio format, I still thoroughly enjoyed listening to this version.

As a young ‘sleuth’ Nancy - along with her father Carson a lawyer, housekeeper Hannah Gruen, friends Bess and George, and later boyfriend Ned – investigates crimes and helps strangers who soon become friends.I loved the Nancy Drew novels as a child. The books were difficult to come by at the school and local libraries so I trawled charity shops hoping to complete my collection of the series of mysteries, plus the 'Nancy Drew Files' which came later.
As a young girl Nancy was who I wanted to be when I 'grew up': feisty, inquisitive, thoughtful and with an amazing wardrobe! Solving mysteries seemed like such good fun and I loved that Nancy was adventurous, brave and strong, moreso than many of the other female characters I read about in books as a ten year old.
Despite the fact that many of these novels were written in the 1930s, some later updated in the 60s and 70s, they never seem particularly dated and Nancy remains relevant even now – perhaps due to the fact that Nancy was created as fearless and determined young woman at a time when such characteristics were often not considered attributable to women.
Listening back to the stories twenty years later it was delightful to re-join Nancy as she uncovered another mystery and sought to solve it. At times you might find yourself pondering jealously on how perfect Nancy is – pretty, rich, kind and popular, and of course a talented driver, tennis player (the list goes on) – but once you put this aside the character is still very likeable, and the stories full of fun, action, mystery and suspense. Despite the nasty criminals and terrible crimes there’s still a sweet innocence to the storytelling which is beguiling.
