Publisher's Summary

Far out in the ocean, where the water is as blue as the prettiest cornflower and as clear as crystal, it is very, very deep; so deep, indeed, that no cable could sound it, and many church steeples, piled one upon another, would not reach from the ground beneath to the surface of the water above. There dwell the Sea King and his subjects. We must not imagine that there is nothing at the bottom of the sea but bare yellow sand. No, indeed, for on this sand grow the strangest flowers and plants, the leaves and stems of which are so pliant that the slightest agitation of the water causes them to stir as if they had life. Fishes, both large and small, glide between the branches as birds fly among the trees here upon land.

Classic tale in its original form

The little mermaid is a tale
Known by all in the current generations thanks to Disney. What is not known is the tale in its original form. The darkness of the tale where the mermaid seeks to gain a soul through love, the pain she endures, the callousness of the princes ignorance, the depth her sisters went to to save her, the dark deed her salvation would require. A fairytale that one might not readily tell a child in the modern age. Great story well narrated. Recommend for all. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

A Special Little Story

This story of The Little Mermaid is a beautiful tale of a young mermaid princess and her love for the prince she rescued from a shipwreck. The audio version is well worth a listen just for the detailed descriptions of life under the sea. It's imaginative and magical, a special little story.

The narration was well done. Abby Elvidge doesn't dramatize the story, she lets the listener interpret the emotions the author intended. She gave each character their own speaking voice, and the scene with the sea witch was especially well done. I received a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.
