Publisher's Summary

Far out in the ocean, where the water is as blue as the prettiest cornflower and as clear as crystal, it is very, very deep; so deep, indeed, that no cable could sound it, and many church steeples, piled one upon another, would not reach from the ground beneath to the surface of the water above. There dwell the Sea King and his subjects. We must not imagine that there is nothing at the bottom of the sea but bare yellow sand. No, indeed, for on this sand grow the strangest flowers and plants, the leaves and stems of which are so pliant that the slightest agitation of the water causes them to stir as if they had life. Fishes, both large and small, glide between the branches as birds fly among the trees here upon land.

Such A Beautiful Telling of a Classic

I, as many others grew up on Hans Christian Andersen books and movies. I love them today as much as I did growing up. The Little Mermaid was mine and my daughters favorite. To this day she still has all her copies including the movies. I can't wait until my granddaughter gets to listen to this one. She'll love it because of not just the story but the reading of it.

This was extra special with Abby Elvidge's narration. Her performance was incredibly good. Her voice inflections were perfect and she read in a tone that children would love. This is something I could imagine would be listened to over and over again by the little ones. Loved it.

A Special Little Story

This story of The Little Mermaid is a beautiful tale of a young mermaid princess and her love for the prince she rescued from a shipwreck. The audio version is well worth a listen just for the detailed descriptions of life under the sea. It's imaginative and magical, a special little story.

The narration was well done. Abby Elvidge doesn't dramatize the story, she lets the listener interpret the emotions the author intended. She gave each character their own speaking voice, and the scene with the sea witch was especially well done. I received a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.
