Der Sandmann

Der Sandmann is an enhancement of the children's fable of the sandman, a nefarious demon that steals the eyes of children. In Hoffmann' story, the mad scientist Dr Cornelius uses eyes to animate robots he builds. One of these machines, "mein bestes Automat", disrupts the love affair by wooing the protagonist from his true love.
