Publisher's summary

In 1707, eight-year-old Sarah travels with her father to build a new home in the Connecticut wilderness. Sarah is afraid when she hears animals in the night. She is afraid when she meets her Indian neighbors. She is especially afraid when she is left with an Indian family while her father goes back to get the rest of their family. But when Sarah remembers her mother’s parting words, “Keep up your courage, Sarah Noble,” she learns to be brave even when she’s afraid. Through Sarah’s example, young listeners will learn much about courage, faith, and inter-cultural friendship.

Based on a true story, The Courage of Sarah Noble also teaches children about colonial life in America. Alice Dalgliesh has written many well-loved books for young people. When heard in narrator Barbara Caruso’s friendly tones, this distinguished contribution to children’s literature becomes even more inviting.

Adorable & Timeless classic from my childhood!

What other book might you compare The Courage of Sarah Noble to and why?

Laura Ingalls Wilder's series, or The Daughters of the Faith series although I do not know if those are available on audible and this one book could hardly be compared to a whole series but it is exceptional for it's rich historical value.

Which character – as performed by Barbara Caruso – was your favorite?

Well Sarah...of course ;)

Any additional comments?

My 5th great-grandmother was Sarah Noble Norton 1785-1854. She came to America in 1840 from England with her children and grandchildren. Although she is not THE Sarah Noble of this story, I do think it highly likely that she is a descendent. Her father's name was John Noble 1760-1807 of Foston on Malton, North Yorshire, England.

Not our favorite

Listened to this with my 5 and 7 year old. The story was kind of boring and the narrators voice was painful for me to listen to. We got through it, but my kiddos were not impressed and neither was I.

Great story

It was a real blessing to listen to and our family will continue to enjoy it. I wish it were longer but for a short chapter book it was wonderful.

True amazing story of old fashioned bravery

wonderful story of old-fashioned bravery in the early 18th century. a quick short listen for the younger children in your family. exposes young children to some of the struggles and fears a young girl would have in the founding of our nation. inspiring each of us to keep up our courage when facing the unknown. the narration fit the story perfectly and was very enjoyable. gather your young children around you and imagine you're here in America in the 1700s
