Publisher's Summary

Pod, Homily and Arrietty are a family of tiny people who live beneath the floor, behind the grandfather clock in the old rectory. They own nothing - everything they have is borrowed from the 'human beans' who don't even know they exist. Arrietty's father, Pod, is an expert borrower. He can scale curtains using a hatpin and bring back a doll's teacup without breaking it.
Girl's aren't supposed to go borrowing, but as Arrietty is an only child, Pod breaks the rules. But when she is in the house borrowing, something happens which changes their lives. Arrietty makes friends with 'the boy upstairs'.

Nice performance but story is a bit simple.

An interesting book overall. To me, the story in the book ends a bit abruptly. I have watched the animation from Studio Ghibli before. The book and the movie tell very different stories based on the same characters. Personally I like the story of the movie more, which spends more time describing how the friendship between the sick boy and Arrietty develops and helps them become braver and kinder.

Have been waiting for this for ages!!

Wonderful story - please hurry up with the other Borrower books!!

The sound quality is very poor - lots of distracting crackles and breaks - can it be sorted out or re-recorded?

Missing sentences!

Would you try another book written by Mary Norton or narrated by Samantha Bond?

I don't particularly like this narrator. I found it very hard to listen to and follow, never mind the year 3 class that I am sharing this book with. I had to give up with the recording and read it myself.

Would you ever listen to anything by Mary Norton again?

Yes

Would you be willing to try another one of Samantha Bond’s performances?

No

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Not really. A lot of the sentences in the actual book are missing from the recording. My year 3 class found it incredibly hard to follow as they had to skip half way down the page to catch up to the narrator.

Any additional comments?

Very poor.

Borrowers Review

I really loved this audio book. It was great and I would recommend it to anyone, it's so good! I couldn't turn it off, even when it got really late. I gave it a 5 star because it was just a great audio book in general and it was one of the best I've ever heard.
