DON'T YOU WORRY ABOUT ME
PIPI LONGSTOCKING is annoying, loud, tells lies, strong and well, I fell in love with her. I jumped at the chance to get this in the daily sale, because of my sister. My sister and I grew up in the 60's. My sister was always the tallest kid in the class until High School. Back then, girls did not play basketball or almost any sports. They were suppose to be prim and proper and a tall girl, rarely fits that mold. My sister loved these books, because I believe, she felt out of place and here is a character who is as out of place as they come. Pipi's imagination and ability to see life different then anybody else, makes her loveable. She has an unusual amount of energy which might be due to the excessive amount of coffee she drinks. She is nine years old.
Be warned that you might have to explain a few things to your kids. For instance Pipi rolls out her cookie dough on the floor and she lets her monkey play in it. She encourages her friends to stick their hands in holes in trees. Her horse lives on her porch and there is no discussion about horse droppings. I loved the first five chapters and each chapter is basically a new adventure. What knock this down to four stars is how predictable this got. I believe kids will still love it (I know my sister did), but as an adult, you start to know what is going to happen long before it does. I also got a little annoyed with the constant silliness. What is funny in chapter one and two and then amusing in chapter three and four, becomes annoying in later chapters. Yet, I found when it was time to say good-bye, I felt an honest sadness to letting her go. I just got to know her and now we are saying good-bye.
I totally don't understand how anybody had a problem with this narrator. I thought she was great and made the story even better.

Kids Love It
My 4 and 5 year old kids love this!! I expected them to be bored, but they can't get enough of Pippi when we are in the car. We tried another popular children's book at the same time and this one is definitely favored.
