Publisher's summary

A father's wounded heart. A mother's patient love. An eager boy, an impetuous girl, and, above all, the healing power of nature. These are the classic ingredients that fill Virginia Sorensen's Newbery Award-winning novel with a tender power and lift it to classic status.

First published in 1956, Miracles on Maple Hill is almost uncanny in its appeal for today's young listeners. For here is the story of a father returned from war in a distant land, wounded in body but even more in spirit, and a family desperate for him to be returned to wholeness, a wholeness they hope can be found on Maple Hill.

With language that is tender, precise, evocative, and yet fiercely powerful, Sorensen draws listeners into a year in the family's life, a year filled with small miracles that yield great reward.

Lovingly brought to life by the Full Cast Family, this is a recording for the entire family to cherish.

Wonderful, uplifting book for all ages

I heard about this book while watching a maple syrup demonstration at the Pennsylvania Farm Show.
I found this book to be a very sweet and uplifting story. The setting for the story is western Pennsylvania, and the story is about a family who experiences the miracles of nature when they spend time on maple hill. It is not only a wonderfully written story it also provides a lot of interesting information about the making of maple syrup. The cast in this audio performance do a wonderful job keeping the listeners interest throughout the entire story. I would highly recommend this audio book for children and adults as well.

A Favorite At Our House.

Would you consider the audio edition of Miracles on Maple Hill to be better than the print version?

A bonus to the audio version is being able to hear the songs that are talked about. While this may seem small it is something my children enjoyed very much.

Which scene was your favorite?

One of the earliest scenes is the family getting stuck trying to go up a snowy hill. The discovery of the Sugar Shack is almost magical in the telling.

Any additional comments?

This book spoke to my heart. There is a desire to do just as the family did in this story, We read a lot of books and listen to a lot of books in our family. Miracles on Maple Hill is one that is a favorite for everyone.

Fantastic performance of a terrible book

If you want to learn about the sugaring-off season, this book gives a fine lesson in it. However, the characters were so over the top as not to be relatable at all. The plot line was predictable. I continued to listen to the end hoping the sorry would redeem itself somehow and pick up, but in vain. Not one of my children enjoyed it either. The performances were well done.

Each person in the story was perfectly cast. I would like to hear more stories narrated by Cynthia Bishop.

This is great Family read for all ages.

I usually love Full Cast readings and this book made the cut. I felt the voices were well casted for each part and the story was very well developed with many unexpected surprise twist and turns. This book will make want to laugh, cry, smile, and sing. It is a great read for all ages.
