Publisher's summary

Trust Dreams.
Trust your heart,
and trust your story.

A renowned storyteller, whose words have transported readers and listeners to magical realms, guides a traveler safely through lands unknown and yet strangely familiar...

...and home again.

Touch the wooden gate in the wall you never saw before, say "please" before you open the latch, go through, walk down the path....The listener is invited on a lyrical journey peopled by a cast of mythical characters, with a set of instructions that is both intriguing and reassuring. The advice for travelling through a fairytale landscape might just save you from being eaten by wolves or being lost forever, but it is also a charming metaphor for living courageously and taking risks. The expressive and stylish prose resonates with Gaiman's distinctive voice and will captivate listeners of any age.

Enchanting

Neil Gaiman has perhaps the most mesmerizing narrative voice I've ever heard. I could listen to him read all day.

Absolutely, wonderfully, fantastical.

Such a fun summery of what to do in a fantastical world. I play “Instructions” between projects and quite often to gain inspiration during the mundane work hours. Very fun, indeedy.

A Wonderful Neil Gaiman Short Story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Neil Gaiman - Enough Said

Any additional comments?

I wish they did a complete collection of all his little short stories, instead of individual ones.

And they say life doesn't come with instructions!

What would have made Instructions better?

I read a quote from "Instructions" in a post by Krista Tippet, "On Being", radio host, "“Remember your name. Do not lose hope — what you seek will be found. Trust ghosts. Trust those that you have helped to help you in their turn. Trust dreams. Trust your heart and trust your story.” Gaiman's words zapped me. This little 4 minute recording is like a Celtic prayer - word pictures that plant themselves in your heart.I like Neil Gaiman. I like his voice. I like his bravado. "Instructions" hits the high mark.

A great short poem

Would you consider the audio edition of Instructions to be better than the print version?

Yes, hear Neil Gaimen read his own words in magic.

Any additional comments?

It's a great story about the adventure of life, and common fairy tale cliches.

Gorgeous

It's true that this is not quite as good without the pictures, but there's still something so personal and magical about this story which is the quintessence of fairy tales. And Gaiman reading it is ... *chef's kiss*

my favorite

My absolute favorite listen that takes me away, like the perfect refreshing nap that leaves me feeling giddy and inspired to live adventurously, cautiously, and graciously.

I don’t get it...

I like Neil Gaiman, as an author and narrator, but this short story gave me anxiety. It is kid friendly, I think a long list of instructions for a journey isn’t my thing.
