Publisher's Summary

This latest version of Grasshopper Island is ideal for younger children. Goodies hero, Tim Brooke-Taylor, who played all the Voices of Authority in the Seventies television series, narrates the whole story with music from the original films.
A modern-day fairytale about three brothers who runaway from the world of grown-ups to find an uninhabited island where they can live as they please. Sun, sand, fruit in the trees, fish in the sea - what could be better? But freedom isn't so simple. Cornelius Button, an eccentric grasshopper collector and Lupus, his crotchety housekeeper, also think they are the only people living on Grasshopper Island. When they discover each other, adjustments have to be made. And when danger threatens, the boys join forces against a common enemy to ensure that Grasshopper Island remains a place where they can all enjoy life in their own special way.
Read by the legendary Tim Brooke-Taylor, who made his name internationally as one of the much-loved trio The Goodies. He is a regular broadcaster for the BBC, contributing among others, to the long-running comedy series I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue. He also appeared as 'The Voices of Authority' in the original TV version of 'Grasshopper Island'. The original TV series, shown on ITV in the 1970s was filmed in the seventies in London, Wales and Corsica.
The adventure series is still being tracked down by fans who saw it originally. Three brothers nicknamed Toughy, Smarty and Mouse run away to find an uninhabited island - as far as possible from the do's and don'ts of the real world. Letters still arrive from fans all over the world who saw the original television series in the early Seventies. A book followed, and in 2008 a DVD.
Written & produced by Joy Whitby, a legend in the world of British children's television. She created Play School, which launched BBC2 in 1964. She was the one who suggested to Eric Thompson that he bring The Magic Roundabout to the UK from France. In 1965 she was jointly responsible for creating Jackanory. In 1970 she commissioned and exec produced Catweazle for LWT, later as Head of Children's Programming at Yorkshire TV she created The Book Tower, initially presented by Tom Baker.
