Edgar Award-winning author Frances O’Roark Dowell pens this imaginative tale that evokes such delightful classics as Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz.
While waiting outside the principal’s office at school, Isabelle Bean stumbles upon another world. It’s just like a fairy tale—until Isabelle is mistaken for a witch, all thanks to her favorite pair of boots.
"Dreamy and distractible, Isabelle is an appealing protagonist whose newfound gift for hearing calls for help reflects how she has grown up enough to see beyond herself. Like Isabelle, her story has that 'barely visible edge of otherworldliness' that gives it power." (Booklist)
"A master at capturing the emotional lives of modern kids in realistic fiction proves equally adept with fantasy....The fledgling fantasist produces surprises, despair, reunions and hope, all with a deft, playful touch and the ability to deliver breathtakingly penetrating insights perfectly pitched for her audience. Dowell spreads her wings and soars." (Kirkus Reviews)

A Story My Daughter and I Could Both Agree ON
I loved this book because both my daughter and I could enjoy it together. Usually on trips we would argue about the books to listen to. She always wants to listen to a girly, silly story and I want mystery. This book had both.
It would be close to Wizard of Oz with elements of Grimm's Fairytales.
Almasy really brings the characters to life. Her voice is very pleasant and intriguing. It fit the story perfectly.
Yes, but our trip was shorter so we ended up staying up late that night and finishing it before we went to bed.
