Publisher's summary

A bull shark in the swamp? No one in the Louisiana town of St. Roch believes it at first, but when a local boy has a face-to-face encounter with the toothy monster, every big fisherman is called out for the hunt. There's a big cash bounty on the shark.

Sharp-eyed Birdie Gaux and her handsome dog, Bowser, can't help noticing that shark fever is causing some shady doings in town. For instance, where is Snoozy, the clerk who works at the Gaux family fishing store? He's the town's best fisherman, but suddenly he's missing. Is a rival bounty hunter behind Snoozy's suspicious disappearance? Or perhaps the marine biologist who said he'll do anything to keep the shark alive?

Birdie and Bowser are determined to find Snoozy and bring him home safe, but the job is more dangerous than they know. Bowser had better practice his paddling: He and Birdie are heading for deep waters....

Like the old Disney: kids and dogs are the heroes

Bowser is not Chet; he has not been trained to take down perps by their pant legs. But Bowser is still pretty smart and very doggy. Birdie is a smart, take-no-nonsense 10 year-old. Grammy is a powerhouse, and Snoozy is the town kook. This is a delightful series that I wouldn't mind sharing with my young children. Just enough mystery, just enough tension, not too much violence, and some humor too! Spencer Quinn has another great duo here. It's a sweet tale of family, love, trust, and bravery.

I can't imagine anyone but James Frangione voicing these dogs. He makes them come alive with their loyalty and dog sense.

Excellent engaging series for all ages

I do hope that another book will be written in this series if spencer quinn finds the inspiration, or if bowser and birdie find spencer again . Thank you for all of your canine literary connections mr quinn

Good continuation of the series

I hope Quinn will return to his adult series with Chet and Bernie, but meanwhile these are a nice fill-in. It's the inimitable narration by James Frangione that gives both series their emotional pull and great fun.

Love Spencer Quinn

If I weren't already a dog lover/owner, I'd sure be one after reading Spencer Quinn's novels. The Chet & Bernie series were my first Quinn experience. And while I'm an old woman, I love, love, the Bowser & Birdie series as I'm sure I will love the other series, whose name escapes me now. Can't wait to get back to them.
