Publisher's summary

At 16, Anne is grown up...almost. Her gray eyes shine like evening stars, but her red hair is still as peppery as her temper. In the years since she arrived at Green Gables as a freckle-faced orphan, she has earned the love of the people of Avonlea and a reputation for getting into scrapes. But when Anne begins her job as the new schoolteacher, the real test of her character begins.

Along with teaching the three Rs, she is learning how complicated life can be when she meddles in someone else's romance, finds two new orphans at Green Gables, and wonders about the strange behavior of the very handsome Gilbert Blythe. As Anne enters womanhood, her adventures touch the heart and the funny bone.

A Fan of the Anne of Green Gables Series

I am a fan of L.M. Montgomery and the Anne of Green Gables series, as well as Megan Follows - the actress who played Anne Shirley in the TV versions. She reads with the same relish and talent that appeared in the television shows. Since its original release, I have listened to this audiobook again and again. This and the others of the series have been a delight that I have shared with many and I hope that you too will enjoy...

Great, but sadly abridged

I love, love, love that this is narrated by Megan Follows. No voice but hers will ever be the Anne in my head. Sadly it is an abridged version, which I didn't realize before I purchased. I wish Megan Follows would have narrated the full-length books.

Didn’t say it was ABRIDGED! Such a bummer. And weird music playing over the reading

Rachel McAdams PLEASE read the rest of the books! This was the closest to ok after the stellar reading McAdams did of Anne of Green Gables but I had to stop once the very annoying music started playing over Megan Follows’ voice. If I wanted music on the action scenes, I would watch the show. Follows was good but the sound quality is kinda low and far away. Bummed that it’s abridged, too, with no warning. Will be returning

Fantastic.

What is better than the real Anne reading the books?!
Great performance, I wish she had read the entire series.

A Classic!

The story is timeless, and Megan Follows is the only AnnE! You simply can't go wrong with this version.

Great Narrator...Poor Quality Recording

This is a great novel and a great narrator. If you've seen the tv movie, "Anne of Green Gables" you'll recongize the voice of Anne. However, the quality of the recording is very poor. You do get used to it, but it is distracting.

Don't Bother

Would you try another book from L.M Montgomery and/or Megan Follows?

I love LM Montgomery and all her Anne novels. I have read them many times. This book is weirdly abridged. They leave out bits of detail here and there. It is really irritating, and it causes some gaps in the plot line. They also have odd music at random times that really detracts from the experience.

What do you think your next listen will be?

IDK. Back to browsing what is available!

How did the narrator detract from the book?

It can be hard to tell which character she is reading at the time. There is very little difference in tone / intonation between different characters.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No. Just read the original - it will be a much better experience. It isn't a long book. Abridging it was just ridiculous.

Any additional comments?

Audible needs to be make the note that the book is ABRIDGED more obvious. I never would have wasted my money on this book if I had seen that.

Sweet story

Never read the Anne of Green Gables series before, but LOVED the movies as a child. The books are, of course, even better! The narrator could have used a little more variety in her voices to help communicate who was speaking, but she was pleasant to listen to. Of course LM Montgomery is a gifted author! And Anne is a delightful character! My daughter, age 8, and I enjoyed our car trip so much as we listened.

Annotated

Wanting to make sure no one else makes the same mistake I did. When I saw that this was narrated by Follows, I immediately thought who better than to tell the story of Anne, than Anne herself. Unfortunately, I discovered after listening to a few chapters that it is annotated and about half the book is missing.
