Critic Reviews

"Here...are the most robust characters in American legend. Told by a poet with a poet's ear for the impact of words, these American mavericks walk an talk across the pages in a free, wide way, as they walked and talked across the free, wide America of pioneer days." (Publishers Weekly)

Nice to give to the kids to listen to...

This was done well...I gave it four stars only because the laugh for the characters could have been interpreted a little differently to convey a friendly tone instead of a harsh tone for characters such as Joe (the last story).

Thank you! Otherwise I was glad to have a good audio book to take some load off of me as a home schooling mom. :)

An Enjoyable Romp

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would definitely recommend this book. 100% family friendly for ages 7 and up.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Johnny Appleseed. Sometimes there is a fine line between madness and genius, and that story handled it very well.

What does Carter Cathcart bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

This text was not meant merely to be read in silence. Having a professional voice actor read this book brought liveliness to the stories that a young reader might miss in any other way.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. Definitely yes.

Any additional comments?

Performance was considerably better than average, but not something I would take for a perpetual favorite. That was the only reason it did not make 5 stars.
