Publisher's summary

Fourteen-year-old Nita is in Ireland, spending the summer with her aunt. As a young wizard, Nita is fascinated by the forces at work in this ancient land. Sometimes, the world seems to be shifting sideways into another dimension. Layers of history, rich with battles between superhuman tribes, lurk beneath the surface of every moment. When Nita discovers that her aunt is a wizard, too, Nita realizes that this summer will not be a vacation. Ireland truly is in danger: her past is breaking into the present. And if this disintegration of time continues, the rest of the physical world will crumble, too. Nita must help her aunt and the other wizards restore order again.

Like the other books in Diane Duane's popular series, A Wizard Abroad is filled with all the imaginative details of a magical world. Its frisky spells, talkative cats, and moonlight visions are enhanced by Christina Moore's spirited narration.

Critic reviews

"Moving easily between light, everyday language and the sonorous formality of high fantasy, Duane seamlessly interweaves encounters with creatures from legend with glimpses of modern Irish life and teen culture....An unusually consistent fantasy, rich in details, subplots, and Irish lore." (School Library Journal)

Amazing

Christina Moore continues to amaze me. This reader handles so many accents and so well that there seem to be many people reading. THAT is how a story should be presented. Diane Duane and Christina Moore together weave a story tapestry that is very very satisfying.

Utterly Brilliant

The first three books in this series were a mix of science fiction and fantasy-- this one veers to the left to become hardcore fantasy. And yet, it doesn't take anything away from the series.

I think this may be my favorite of the series to date.

It should also be noted that the reader is absolutely amazing.

Wizardry in Ireland

This book is a great combination of world building for the Young Wizards series and Irish mythology.
