Publisher's summary

As a SEAL sniper and combat veteran, Webb was tapped to revamp the US Naval Special Warfare (SEAL) Scout/Sniper School, incorporating the latest advances in technology and ballistics software to create an entirely new course that continues to test the skills and even the best warriors. In this revealing new audiobook, Webb takes listeners through every aspect of this training, describing how Spec Ops snipers are taught each dimension of their art. Trainees learn to utilize every edge possible to make their shot - from studying crosswinds, barometric pressure, latitude, and even the rotation of the Earth, to becoming ballistic experts. But marksmanship is only one aspect of the training. Each SEAL's endurance, stealth, and mental and physical stamina are tested and pushed to the breaking point.

Webb also shows how this training plays out in combat, using real-life exploits of the world's top snipers, including Jason Delgado, who led a Marine platoon in the Battle of Husaybah and made some of the most remarkable kill shots in the Iraq War; Nicholas Irving, the US Army Ranger credited with 33 kills in a single three-month tour in Afghanistan; and Rob Furlong, who during Operation Anaconda delivered the then-longest kill shot in history.

During Webb's sniper school tenure, the course graduated some of the deadliest and most skilled snipers of this generation, including Marcus Luttrell (Lone Survivor), Adam Brown (Fearless), and Chris Kyle (American Sniper). From recon and stalk, to complex last minute adjustments, and finally, the moment of taking the shot, The Killing School demonstrates how today's sniper is trained to function as an entire military operation rolled into a single individual - an army of one.

meh

Wasn't really the book I had hoped for. I believed it would be more about the actual school with real life applications of the training. instead, it was a collection of memoirs with bits of anecdotal education.

Not much new here

If you've read any the snipers other books IE The Reaper/a the Red Circle, then you will find this book fairly redundant. That being said I especially enjoyed learning more about the exploits of Rob Furlong which I previously didn't know.

Hard to believe

There are some glaring mistakes in this book that if you were in the military you will notice right away. If the author has the credentials he claims then he could never have made these mistakes. After reading a few of these O couldn't finish the book. I was really looking forward to it too.

Good...but not great

The war stories were excellent. But the title made me believe there would be more information about the program. Maybe they were not allowed to be more specific. The details of their training and techniques are at the level of a coffee table book. If you are a recreational long range shooter, don't expect to learn anything in this book. I've listened to much worse and much better books. I don't regret the purchase, but I definitely expected more.

Don't Strike Out...Read this book.

Very much enjoyed the examples of ambidextrous marksmanship which provided a feel as to how far the Ambidextral Rifleman/Gunfighter concept could progress. Inspiring story of the huge change in instruction philosophy....away from the "don't strike out" and "don't fuck it up" focus. I detected elements of "The Rise of Superman", too.

telling other people's stories

very little of this of this book is his orginal material, most the book is him retelling other stories that are already out there in book form.
Lots of bad errors like m40 is 30-06, and 30 cal is bigger than 7.62mm.
very bad!!

Voice bad and Writing Bad

Ive read all or your books but im sorry. I cannot y3ll if its the narrator or how you wrote this. But one second im with nick irving about to make his first kill then the next second im blown up getting shot at thinking nicks taking fire but its another guys story. you need to break and set the scene not jump around whilly nilly like a pog that just got mistaken for an infantryman. Not knocking my fellow brothers in arms combat brothers. but this was a bad read.
