Texas Rising was extremely well done compared to the TV mini-series of the same name. While not as detailed as the Fehrenbach Texas opus, this book tells the complex story from the standpoint of the Texas Rangers. Well written and fast moving, this presentation is well done. As a native Texan, I wish the narrator had consulted a Texican about pronunciation of many Texas landmarks which do not bear the true Spanish sounds. Refugio and Llano were abused several times. Otherwise I recommend the book and have used it as a text in a Texas history class I have taught.

It was very difficult to enjoy this story due to yet another bad narrator. Not only was it stiff and misplaced (like choosing a redneck to read the story of Bostonian Paul Revere), but I'm not sure he even pronounced one name correctly. How hard is it to do a little bit of homework and learn local pronunciation. It was so distracting and agitating that I could barely follow the story. Worth a read, not a listen.
