Publisher's Summary

So who was Jack the Ripper? No one in the annals of crime is capable of arousing such passionate debate as the perpetrator of the Whitechapel Murders in 1888. Was he a demented Royal, a Masonic assassin, a sexually frustrated artist, a member of the Czarist secret police, a crazed reformist or even an escaped gorilla?
More than a century has passed since this unknown killer murdered East End prostitutes under the very noses of the police, and yet we seem no closer to uncovering the Ripper's identity. Countless volumes have been written by warring researchers, seemingly unable to agree even on the number of his victims. Is it possible that we will ever know the truth, or is the Ripper destined to remain an enigma, his place in history secured as both an English-heritage crime icon and a universal bogeyman?
This revised and updated edition contains a summary of Jack's crimes, victims, and the ill-fated police investigation. It considers many of the Ripper's proposed identities, bringing you up to date with the latest suspects and includes a guide to the Ripper's many fictional outings, from The Lodger to From Hell.

A Rippin Read! (see what I did there!)

I really enjoyed this book. It goes through every Ripper case in full detail, including how the police reacted to each murder (which in itself was pretty interesting), and also then goes on to list every suspect that has ever been linked to the case in any way...and there are a lot of suspects!!
It does go on to list every tv show and film that ever featured Jack the Ripper as a character which did seem to be to be a bit pointless but the book is so indepth and thorough that if you have any interest in the subject matter whatsoever then this book really does tell all...

Really enjoyed this listen

I wasnt sure whether to go for this audio book or not. Most reviews seemed very positive but there was one that seemed very down on the narrator which did make me pause but after listening to the books sample I decided I quite liked the narrators voice and so went ahead and bought it. I was not disappointed...the book is jam packed with every bit of Jack info you could ever want to know. I agreed with the negative reviewer that the book did go a bit downhill at the end but only because they were listing tv programmes that feature Jack as a character which I just thought was pointless. The book had already detailed everything I could ever want to know so I can hardly pick holes in the fact that it offered yet more info. Im sure film and tv fans will love that particular chapter, it just wasnt for me.
Personally though I quite enjoyed the narration...the voice was very easy on the ear, unlike some other audio books that seem to be narrated by people with very jarring voices. I've even gone on to purchase another audio book by the same narrator as I felt she had a very easy on the ear style.
All in all a fab listen and very informative.
