Publisher's summary

A riveting novel about how the past never stays in the past, from the critically acclaimed author of The Drowning Girls and The Mourning Hours.

Megan Mazeros and Lauren Mabrey are complete opposites on paper. Megan is a girl from a modest Midwest background, and Lauren is the daughter of a senator from an esteemed New England family. But in 1999, Megan and Lauren become college roommates and, as two young women struggling to find their place on campus, they forge a strong, albeit unlikely, friendship. The two quickly become inseparable, sharing clothes, advice and their most intimate secrets.

The summer before their senior year, Megan joins Lauren and her family on their private island off the coast of Maine. The weeks go by, filled with fun and relaxation, until late one night at the end of the vacation, something unspeakable happens, searing through the framework of the girls' friendship and tearing them apart. Many years later, in the midst of a political scandal, Megan finally comes forward about what happened that fateful night, revealing a horrible truth about Lauren's family and threatening to expose their long-buried secrets.

In this captivating and moving novel of domestic suspense, Paula Treick DeBoard explores the power of friendship and secrets and shows how betrayal can lead to disastrous, and deadly, consequences.

The interweaving of two women’s lives in a way that doesn’t let you put the story down. Well crafted.

Not worth it

This book was so long winded and boring. I really suggest you keep your credit.

One for #MeToo

Decent read. Good pacing and connection to characters. Timely plot for our current events especially those surrounding that of #MeToo.

Great Book

Good storyline, great mix of chick lit and suspense. Was shocked by how it ended and would recommend.

That voice!

You know how a narrator can make or break a book? Well the voice of “Meghan” was close to doing that for me! It was work to get passed her annoying tone to find out how the book ended. Will never put myself through that again!

Here you'll find an amazing read......

What made the experience of listening to Here We Lie the most enjoyable?

It is always refreshing to listen to a book that has a very compelling storyline, well- developed characters and terrific narrators. The end result? After you are half-way through this book it is impossible to put down. I selected this book for two reasons: 1) I listened to Paula Treick DeBoard's "The Drowning Girls" and, therefore, I knew that she was a gifted author 2) I could listen to Cassandra Campbell read the phone book. "The Drowning Girls" had a very abrupt ending (it was like the author ran out of paper when it was time to end the book) and, fortunately, this book's ending was much better crafted.

What other book might you compare Here We Lie to and why?

This book reminded me of Chris Bohjalian's novels because the author's characters were strong and relatable and the book's storyline was compelling and not predictable.

What does Cassandra Campbell and Alex McKenna bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Cassandra Campbell is one of my favorite narrators and I eagerly await the books that she narrates. I always love when there are multiple narrators because this always adds another dimension to the book and it also makes the book easier to follow.

If you could rename Here We Lie, what would you call it?

I personally felt the "Here We Lie" title was lame and did not do this book justice.Sorry, Audible, if you want to me to use my creative juices to rename this title....... I charge for my time.

Any additional comments?

A great read. Don't miss this one!

awful narration

I am struggling to get through it because I cannot stand Megan's voice. I am enjoying the story, it's too bad about the horrible narration.

The narrator for Megan had a horrible croaky voice. It made the story hard to listen to. it was a nice story but could have been so much more.
