Is it too late to get my money back?
I recently started the keto diet, which is a low-carb diet. I was blown away how successfully I have been losing weight over the past few weeks. But when something seems too good to be true, it usually is. so I decided to try to read up on the downsides of low-carb diets. This book had surprisingly high ratings, I guess there's a lot of dumb people out there. I got that the author is a very well distinguished person in his field but this book was nothing but a persuasive argument. He pretty much spent the first two chapters just trash talking some Tobbs guy that I've never even heard of. All the author did was just try to defend himself from what tabs said in his book and discredit his work with some casual information. As a scientist myself I guess I was looking for an understanding of how our metabolism works and what actually happens to your body when you are on a low-carb diet. I quit this book after the first two chapters because I gleaned absolutely nothing from it. And it's really hard to believe the author when he tells you based on his research that low-carb diets don't work when you are living proof that they do. But just because of low carb diet works doesn't mean it's healthy. I think this guy was too busy trying to defend his life's work that was apparently criticized by someone else to actually give us some facts to work with. he came off as incredibly egotistical and childish. This book was definitely a complete and total waste of time and money in my pursuit of knowledge of how my metabolism works.

Careful when using the word fraud . . .
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Be careful when you see the word Fraud. I am a physician, and suggest the interested reader listen to both sides of this question. This PhD author seems somewhat jealous of his peer group, and even perpetuates the myth (from the "vegetarians") that Dr. Atkins died from low-carb diet consequences. (Dr. Atkins was 6 ft., 195 lbs when he suffered from a head injury. He died bloated, with organ failure, in a coma.) This author also clings to the "cholesterol is the problem", soon to be arcane. There is valuable information here, but only if tempered with some outside information. (Fat comes from carbs, not from fat.)

Narcissism much?
You say thanks to the taxpayers for this book. I want my tax share back please.
I have personally reversed my liver cancer and all other metabolic issues, by doing the opposite of what this book suggests. Every person is different. Carnivore/paleo/keto has brought me to a health I’ve never experienced. I feel better at 58, than any age since High School. Different strokes. My grass fed steak is done. Peace!

Tried to give an honest listen.
I wanted to go into hearing this book with an open mind from everything I have read and listened to. What bothers me a lot about hearing this book, is that the amount of information discussed is extremely mute, more time is spent on saying the other side is just wrong then rather actually show any substantial evidence to prove their argument.

Interesting, but not sure I trust the facts
I’ve been reading a lot of books regarding the SAD, Standard American Diet, low fat diets, low Carb diets, and others. I picked this book up to try and get a different perspective.
My first impression as I listened was that he throws out a lot of “facts”, and talks about hundreds of studies that support his “facts”. Problem is he seems to be attacking a specific writer, and this writers reports. He doesn’t really provide information on the studies however to back up his “facts”.
What did it for me when he threw out the “fact” that Atkins was obese and suffering from heart conditions at the time of his death. This claim was disproved years ago based upon the hospitals records upon admission following his accident as well as a 60 minutes interview recorded 6 weeks prior to the accident.
I finished the book, but wouldn’t recommend it. Just felt like old school tactics, the good old boys defending their professional reputations with smoke and mirrors.

We should expect better
Filled with name calling and an enormous lack of research Campbell does nothing more than try to refute scientific evidence that doesn’t fit his world view that supports a plant based diet. Personally, as a vegan, I agree with a plant based way of life but I can still appreciate scientific research that includes animal based foods, though I will not eat them. Listening to this rambling nonsense proposed by Campbell was a complete waste of time.

Didn't address the criticisms of high carb diet
I came here to listen to the other side of the low carb vs high carb story. This book failed to directly address the criticisms of the high carb diet. If you're familiar with low carb arguments and the valid criticisms of the diet heart hypothesis, this book is not the next step. there are valid criticisms of the 7 country study and the China study. To be persuasive, this book needed to address those criticisms instead of pretending those studies were the last word on the topic.
But the people didn't implement a failing diet well enough doesn't cut it when addressing the obesity epidemic in the U.S.
The accusations of low carb advocates all being motivated by money doesn't sit well when the high carb camp has had 50 years of heavy institutional backing and killed off research into alternative hypotheses.
Had some good points about not all carbs being equal.
I came looking for a rebuttal to The Big Fat Surprise and similar works. I was hoping to get a balanced look at the topic reading both sides. If this is the best of the low fat/ low protein arguments, then the low fat camp lost badly.

Not informative enough!
I gave this audio book a 1 star because the author never shares in the pdf which researches he used to base his findings against many low-carb diets including his own diet whole food plant based. If you want to convince people about a certain way of eating is the healthier choice give them information they can look up for themselves.
