They do provide the PDFs

Would you consider the audio edition of The Beck Diet Solution to be better than the print version?

When I went to the Audible website on a computer instead of on my phone and opened my library it clearly listed PDF as a download option and that had 2 files: the journal and charts and graphs.

Wow -- it really works

I was 20 pounds from ideal weight, 15 lbs to where I would "settle." I've gained weight gradually since age 50, and attributed it to menopause--after all, I exercise strenuously 5 days a week.
I listened to this on a 4 hr plane trip and I was so inspired, that I listened on the way back 6 days later. I downloaded the PDF today, and I'm ready to start the 6 week program.
I've lost 5 lbs in the 10 days since I first listened. I didn't realize how much I was eating. And I'm amazed at how easy it is to stop the cravings. I'm actually leaving food on the plate, even Thanksgiving Day. And, it's much easier to follow my diet program (McDougall). No more excuses and I feel great.
This book focuses on developing habits day by day. Reading it may be a little easier because of the the way she develops each lesson. However, I usually "read" in the car while listening to my IPOD and this version is fine.
I now feel confident that I'll achieve my ideal weight and I'll be able to fit into my skinny clothes by Spring!

Excellent book, just what I needed

This is a great book. I can honestly say it has changed the way I think about food and dieting. Since I listened to this book I have lost 10 lbs with very little effort. Maybe it was just the right book at the right time, but the information in the book has allowed me to approach losing weight in a very different way than I have before. I know how to lose weight, eat less and exercise, so why did it it seem impossible to do? I know I am an emotional eater, so why don't I just stop? This book gave me the tools to do just that and I couldn't be happier.

Great book - need files

This is a great book, focusing more on the mental aspects of weight loss. It's not just another meal plan/exercise plan book, but it goes over the emotional reasons people may overeat. So far so good. Just one thing: The narrator refers to CD 4 with .pdf information. Would you please provide this data on the site?

Ruined by Narrator

Would you try another book from Judith S. Beck and/or Eliza Foss?

Judith Beck, yes, Eliza Foss, no, with extreme prejudice!

What did you like best about this story?

The application of Cognitive Behavior Therapy techniques to eating habits is much better than diets and other gimmicks. It's also good to know that CBT can be applied to many problems and has actual research backing up it's effectiveness.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Eliza Foss?

ANYONE! Seriously, though, I am not familiar with the names of too many narrators.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Yes, the subject material excellent.

Any additional comments?

I really don't understand how the author could have picked a narrator that is not only annoying but actually seems to mock the listeners. She also appears to fancy herself as an actor. She reads like she thinks she is on Broadway. No one talks like that!

Great information poor performance

This was a tough one. The information was fantastic but unfortunately the choice made for the performance was to read it like a children's book sing-songy and condescending. It made it difficult to get through the material.

Where is the PDF?

The book is very good, and the program very doable. But audible readers need to have access to the information on the CD she is always talking about. Why are they not provided here? And where can we get them?

OK

This book has lots of good ideas; it would just take a lot of time to do them all! Although I like the voice of the reader, I get very annoyed with her "sabotaging thoughts" voice.

Awful, condescending, mocking narration

I am a huge fan of cognitive behavioral therapy and think The Beck Diet Solution is a comprehensive plan with activities that can really work for people if they put the work in.

My problem with the actual book is the assumption that readers struggle with all of the issues Dr Beck identifies. It is definitely geared towards people who don’t have a background in any successful weight loss attempts. Lots of readers have been successful and need help in certain areas and the book doesn’t seem to take that into consideration. The book would have been helped by using phrases like “some might people struggle with ...” or “this might be another issue that keeps you from losing weight”. Instead, she continually assumes if you reading her book, you must have all of these issues. Additionally, the focus on “thin”
Is very annoying to me. Many people just want to be healthy and strong and it’s actually insulting to hear the constant references “if I want to be thin” or “I’ll feel more attractive”. It sounds superficial and vain, honestly.

The problems related to the audible version is the chapter divisions and the incredibly awful narrator. Breaks should have been made by Day instead of the huge chapters. That is really, really annoying. But nothing is worse than the narrator. I don’t think I’m going to be able the actually finish this because of her. Her “sabotaging thought” voice is so whiny and pitiful- like all dieters are weak minded, spoiled brats. Some of it may be content related but she certainly makes it 100x worse with her delivery. And her instructional voice is incredibly condescending and punitive. The helpful responses are supposed to be firm and clear, but she delivers them like an uppity professor or mean mommy.
