Good info on cleanses, not so on benefits

This book is about colon health and the various ways you can go about cleansing it. The pros and cons of each method are gone over briefly, as well as how to set about cleansing your colon.

I’m on the fence about this one. One one hand, this book hand plenty of info on the different types of colon cleanses. On the other hand, it veered straight into silly scare tactics about how horrible your life will be if you don’t go out and get a colon cleanse. Your life will not suddenly, miraculously be better due to an enema or flax seed colon scraping.

So let’s talk about all the things I did like. I did not realize how many different types of colon cleanse were out there these days. Of course, I have heard about enemas and various fasting methods. I have even done the gall bladder cleanse from time to time. Today, there is so much more. You can go to a spa or clinic and have tubes inserted into your colon and have a water flush. You can buy over the counter cleanses that you take over a period of days or weeks. The variety is out there now that you can pick what works for your schedule and certain tastes and make it happen.

The book also talked about all the benefits to having a cleanse done. And that is where it got a little too good to be true for me. I felt like the book was laying it on a little too thickly, that the number of health benefits were beyond what a mere cleanse could give most humans most of the time. Also, the book briefly said that eating meat, especially red meat, will give you cancer. There were no qualifiers. Simply, if you eat meat, you will get cancer. That does not sound scientifically accurate to me.

Over all, it is a quick read for some basic info about all the different types of colon cleanses out there. I would warn readers/listeners to not put too much stock in to the health benefits discussion in this book as your doctor is probably better able to advise you.

Narration: Valerie Gilbert presented the info in a clear, concise manner. I can imagine that some folks would get a fit of giggles if asked to discuss colon cleanses and there was not a hint of that with Ms. Gilbert. Her narration was easy to follow with no hesitancy over the subject matter.
