Publisher's summary

A one-of-a-kind audiobook. Learn how to harness your central nervous system for optimal health, productivity, and longevity. You don't need to be a Wall Street trader to see that this is the best investment you will ever make. The audiobook is easy to listen to.

You will refer to it time and time again when challenges arise. This audiobook is a must for anyone who takes their health and career seriously.

In terms of evolution, humanity hasn't changed much over the past 100,000 years. Although our environment is wildly different, our basic needs are much the same. This creates an incongruity between what we've evolved to handle and what we face on a day-to-day basis.

In Caveman Bodies in a Corporate Jungle, Dr. John Barrett examines the relationship between our caveman brains and our stress-filled modern workplace. Among the findings presented within this audiobook are:

  • Evaluations of our basic needs through the lens of evolution
  • Specific suggestions for how to reduce stress and become your happiest, healthiest, most productive self
  • Tips for finding the motivation you need to succeed
  • Keys to cultivating useful skills for your personal and professional life

Modern life seems much more complicated than it was in the old days, and we're all doing our best to survive in this chaotic world. If you can fend off unnecessary stress and stay focused on what you truly need - mentally, physically, psychologically, and emotionally - you'll be well on your way to good health, happiness, and success. Caveman Bodies in a Corporate Jungle shows you how.

A Great Listen for My Morning Commute!

I thought Dr. Barrett was talking about me as I drove to work listening to the narration...speaking on some of the drama most of us deal with every day!
This book provides many tips and guidelines on how to live a more balanced life while minimizing stress.
My favorite chapter was on Interpersonal Communication and Teamwork, which gives an overview of different situations in the corporate jungle and how to deal with them.
I recommend this book to anyone that works in the aforementioned jungle!

Timely Advice and Insight for your health!!!

Dr. Barrett does a really good job giving thoughtful insight to how we as an advanced society can treat our bodies both from a lifestyle basis but as well as from a dietary viewpoint. He really gets you to think of how our bodies react to all the things we are exposed to in our daily life. He provides a fresh aspect of how we and our environment interact and most importantly how we can create a well balanced life, without the "pill pushing culture" of today . I had originally purchased the book because of the strong reviews on Amazon but with my travel, I wanted an audio version to listen to while I drive. Dr. Barrett does a great job with narration with an upbeat tone and gives a great reading without talking down to the listener or above their head.

life changing!

Dr. Barrett's book changed my life! I was over stressed and over worked, and found his advice to be practical and motivating. I am already incorporating the diet he suggests, and many of his other processes including the PAD and communication skills. Dr. Barrett has a successful practice and many years of experience which show through in this book.

Great tips to stay sane in a hectic line of work

After a few years at a large law firm my body was on the verge of revolt. I was constantly stressed, but so was everyone else so I didn't think too much of it. It wasn't until I read this book that I realized why I felt so terrible all the time.

This book does a terrific job of explaining both what stress does to the body and mind, and how our bodies are poorly evolved to handle corporate life. Fortunately, its not all doom and gloom. After isolating the problem, the author recommends several concrete actions we can take to avoid the negative impact of stress. After following the books recommendations for just a few weeks I feel drastically better. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

Horrible narration, questionable science.

The author interprets all adverse conditions in life as a perpetual fight-or-flight response and offers dieting advice that feels like it came out of the 1940s. Exercise is barely covered in any depth while he spends considerable time discussing the positive effects of Feng Shui. very dissatisfied with both the content and the narration.
