Publisher's Summary

Summer 1987. Lillian Ginger Speck, high-school graduate, sits in her jail cell contemplating the steps and missteps that led her to murder soap opera star Brooke Harrison in cold blood one bright and muggy New York afternoon. Lily had admired the young star for some time, and her loss is palpable. Her story is therefore part apologia, part love note and suicide pact. Meanwhile, Brooke Harrison’s mother has a tale of her own to tell. In this edgy and compelling “whydunit,” the accounts of predator and victim intertwine. The result is a wry exploration of the contemporary American melting pot of status, beauty, celebrity, violence, and obsession.

Narrator Put Me to Sleep

The narrator's voice is HORRIBLE. It is monotone, monotonous, flat and lacks emotion. I couldn't listen while driving as I was afraid I would fall asleep. However, I really did enjoy the story. A frightening look at celebrity fan obsession gone horribly wrong, and the depiction of life inside a woman's prison is scary as hell.

It was an ordeal getting through this book because of the narrator, but I did enjoy the subject matter and wanted to see it through to the end. Thank goodness its over!

Can't get past the readers voice

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I can't recommend or not recommend it. Can't listen to it for the narrator.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I'm not a big reader, but when I do read it has to grab me. Listening to audiobooks is about the only way I really "read". This narrator does not grab me. It's like listening to my 86 year old Aunt read. Seriously puts me to sleep. Sorry
