Editorial reviews

Passionate and deeply intimate, When Dreams Tremble is a story of an old love, rekindled. Leslie Harris thinks she has her life together until she runs into an old girlhood crush, the mysterious Devon Weber. Suddenly her relaxing vacation has turned into something far more serious.… Coleen Marlo performs Radclyffe's romantic work with all of the requisite flourishes and emotion. Marlo's tone is charming and relatable, just the type of performer a romantic thriller such as this deserves!

Publisher's summary

Leslie Harris's visit to her upstate New York lakeside family home after a decade of triumphs and disappointment resembles a nightmare more than the quiet vacation she'd hoped for. The unexpected appearance of much-changed town girl, Devon Weber, with whom Leslie shares a secret that haunts them both, rekindles an old heart ache - and reminds Leslie of just why she left.

Even though her attraction to Dev comes roaring back, the one thing Leslie doesn't want is to pick up where they left off, especially not when she already has just the life she wants - a rewarding high-power law practice, a condo in Manhattan, and a lover who satisfies her without demanding the intimacy Leslie avoids. Unfortunately, environmental biologist Devon Weber doesn't play by Leslie's rules. Two women whose lives turned out far differently than they'd once imagined discover that sometimes the shape of the future can only be found in the past - and love is strongest - When Dreams Tremble.

Amazing

Wow. Such a captivating story with an expressive narrator. Love how Dev uses "Fish are people two" in a case. Great story with a great ending. Amazing romantic plot line. Kept me listening through work and even at home. Couldn't stop until I finished it all in one day.

Slow burn and full of angst

but I could not stop listening. I really loved it. The angstiness got a little much towards the end right before it finally gets resolved, but its a minor irritation. I liked the characters and its sweet relief when they finally get together. Definitely worth your time.

Please!!!

I've been hearing about Radclyffe for years and after being verbally harassed by a mentor type lesbian i gave in and ordered one. So hey, the lady can write pretty well and tells a story that pulls you in; those are pretty positive. Unfortunately that isn't enough to save this selection from mediocrity.
I'm a 22 yr. old poly amorous female who is in possession of no writing skills whatsoever; (spellcheck i love you.) seriously i wish with everything i have that i could write; because all non- hetero woman writers are older than my parents, which is a major problem when they attempt to write young. The whole sex is only about love thing reminds me more of my grandparents world. If i was in Devon's position those three weeks I would have totally hit it with Natalie; my friends agree.
Speaking of Devon; my god what a lame pathetic wimp of a woman. Leslie has been either ignoring her or letting her down since they were in high school but she still hangs around waiting for Leslie to toss her a few scraps. If you're a woman and can relate to this character then i feel sorry for you. Particularly as it applies to Leslie.
Leslie is a scared pathetic excuse for a woman in her own way; except that she's also mean, thoughtless, and so totally self-centered it's hard to believe a woman couldn't get over her in 15 minutes; much less 15 years. I have seriously never met anyone out of their teens who couldn't get over a high school crush. Especially one who'd treated her the way Leslie treated Devon.
Oh yeah, add to that the overwrought sex scenes and i'll have to let Janet know that i'm officially an unbeliever when it comes to this author. Stay Cool

I Want a Sequel! Loved it so much.

These characters are great, I'd like to see them a few years down the road.

Entertaining

Typical storyline is good, but the repetion of excuses without common sense solutions is exhausting

Same

I couldn’t finish it. The narrator was trying to hide her British accent that it came out weird! Just irritated me.

Bothersome side character

I normally love Radclyffe’s books but this wasn’t the greatest. Natalie really bugged me. If she were a male, her refusal to take no for an answer would be a huge issue but we’re supposed to think it’s okay or hot because she’s female? Dev told her no numerous times and Natalie kept making advances. Made me hate her as a character.

Sadly a miss…

Sadly this one is a miss for me. There wasn’t much to the whole story - just the same thing coming up and dragging out throughout the whole book. I absolute love Radclyffe’s books, but this one was just OK.
Narration was just ok. Weird accent that has no place in NY. Narrator read the wrong name a few times which caused confusion. She said Natalie sometimes when it was supposed to be Leslie and vice versa.

One of the best

Love Radclyffe and read/listened to everything she published so far, but I’m very fond of this particular book…it’s about love that never dies…it might be in the back burner for a while, simmering down and almost forgotten but then one event changes everything and the fire burns hot and stronger…Colleen Marlo does a great job in putting the right feelings in the dialogs…just awesome!

Just Perfect

Radclyffe is a hit or miss for me - but this one is a Big hit for me. The story got me emotionally vested in the characters and wanting to know what happens a year or two later. Does Natalie hook up with the Sheriff ? Does Leslie eventually move from Manhattan?
I’m partial to Abby as a narrator but I’ve become a fan of Coleen Marlo. And those sex scenes- Leta just leave it at ... OMG
