Publisher's summary

In this gripping thriller from the New York Times best-selling author of Out of the Ashes, an Islamic extremist is on a quest for vengeance after his only son is killed, and it's up to Op-Center to stop his lethal plot.

General Bob Underwood - a special presidential envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL - is en route to the Syrian city of al-Bukamal when a rocket-propelled grenade strikes the side of his Humvee, and the heavily armored convoy comes under attack. The general's bodyguard is brutally murdered, and Underwood himself is kidnapped. Hours later the president and top officials watch in horror from the Oval Office as the general is viciously beheaded by an ISIL leader - broadcast on live television through a direct feed from Al Jazeera.

The world is stunned by the bloody scene but even more so that this supposedly loose-knit terrorist organization was able to orchestrate a lethal attack on the world's most powerful military. American forces go into high gear on land and sea to retaliate, but when the ISIL leader's son is killed in an American bombing raid, his rage knows no bounds, and he determines to wreak vengeance on the American homeland itself.

With everything in the balance, Op-Center must assemble both its domestic strike force as well as its international intervention force - built around a seasoned squad operating out of the secretive unit that captured Osama bin Laden - to stay one step ahead of a ruthless enemy.

Clearly not up to Clancy's name

What disappointed you about Tom Clancy's Op-Center: Scorched Earth?

Technically the book was very weak and not up to Clancy's name. Narrator could not help this book.

Has Tom Clancy's Op-Center: Scorched Earth turned you off from other books in this genre?

Clearly will be cautious about anything written by Galdorisi.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Many times the voices sounded like little girls not men.

Terrible performance. Ruined the book

Since when did everyone at JSOC ,OPS and all the other 3 letter agencies speak with a southern twang while whisper all the time.
Almost turned it off so many times but suffered through it.

Narrator sucks!

The story was good, plenty of twist and turn, unfortunately more predictable than others by this writer. It was difficult to listen to because narrator is horrible, voice is very nasal and can't do accents for s***. not with $ ,I pre-ordered this book, should have waited until price went down

Narrator is awful!

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I listen to a book a week and have listened to all of the OpCenter books. I have not experienced a narrator yet that made me want to stop listening even though I was enjoying the story. Peter Berkrot so over dramatizes the text that everyone and everything sounds conspiratorial. He sounds so much like Will Ferrell impersonating George W. Bush on SNL for every character and every action. He may have narrated over 100 books but he is awful for this book

Annoying

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I don't know if it could have made it to a 4.

If you’ve listened to books by George Galdorisi before, how does this one compare?

Not sure I have listened to anything by him. I can say this one wasn't all that well thought out. Some of the story was just not right. The thoughts expressed by the kidnapped men, how the FBI managed things and the actions by the son were unbelievable.

Would you be willing to try another one of Peter Berkrot’s performances?

His voice, expressing many of the conversations in a whisper, and the way he drags out words is so annoying. I am struggling to finish this book because of his narration.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Tom Clancy's Op-Center: Scorched Earth?

I would trash the story line. But then maybe it was just my annoyance with the narration.

Any additional comments?

I need to remember to never listen to another book narrated by him.

The worst

How could the performance have been better?

I think the performers completely took away from the storyline of this book. I can't say 100% that the story was terrible because the my poor opinion is highly influenced by the performance by the readers. There was too much drama and voice inflections/accents that were inconsistent and not fitting to the characters.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Tom Clancy's Op-Center: Scorched Earth?

Cut the readers!

excellent story line -- ruined by narrator.

the narrator at many times sounded lie igor in an old London Chaney film. his attempts at accents even sounded like some one trying adopt a hisspanic-american. Badly read and vocalized.
