Publisher's Summary

Forced to leave the Clan and her young son, Ayla sets out alone to travel the frigid steppes until she finds the valley of horses. Unable to find people like herself, the Cro-Magnons, she settles there and seeks friendship elsewhere. First she adopts a young filly, then a wounded lion cub. But far to the west, two young Cro-Magnon brothers have begun a journey. One of them is Jondalar, whose destiny is bound inextricably with Ayla's.
Jean Auel's imaginative reconstruction of pre-historic life, rich in detail of language, culture, myth and ritual, has become a set text in schools and colleges around the world.

Great listen

Really loved the narration of this wonderful story. The Characters were bought to life in a colourful spellbinding way. I look forward to the 'mammoth hunters'

Sped through second instalment

Was so keen to continue Ayla’s story so straight into book 2. Because I’d gotten to know Ayla well during the previous book, I was impatient with the introduction of new characters. But made the effort and was rewarded. I found I kept waiting for the moment Ayla and Jondalar would finally meet. Felt like it didn’t happen till half way through the book. I was anticipating their meeting around the corner way before that. I was unable to place how physically far away the characters were and after so much walking and journeying and troubles, I thought it had to be soon!

I had to let go of a few things that annoyed me. I felt that future events were too obviously being set up at times but that wasn’t too bad. The most annoying thing of the book though trivial was the amount of gasping that took place. She gasped. He gasped. They gasped. I think the horse gasped at one point.

I wish I had even a whisper of Ayla’s strength and skill. I’m not even sure how I make it to the coffee machine in the morning. Which makes the coffee for me.

Ok, onto book 3!

Hmm, not on the same level as clan bear

Your here because you need to find out what happens next after Cave of the Clan Bear. Umm soooo.. It really doesn't feel the same author wrote both books. There is a lot of erotica; a lot. The story will start and you will think "this isn't so bad" but then the erotica appears and doesn't go away and then you will think "ok now I know what everybody means when they say the rest of the books in this series is not like the first one". I could get through it but will get off the train now and not give the third a try.
