i really love deaver and bought this straight away, then noticed it was abridged. what a hatchet job! why ruin a good story by ripping the guts out of it? the abridgment was so bad, i couldn't make head nor tail of it and gave up with about an hour to go. will wait for the full version. dont waste your credits on this mess. if i could, i would have given it no stars.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Twelfth Card to be better than the print version?
Certainly not in this abridged format. I read a copy years ago and was excited to listen to this version, but I was left a bit let down. Lots of the story is missing and it had the feel of a badly edited film.
What did you like best about this story?
I enjoyed the personal side of the story very much. The characters of Rhyme and Sachs are always interesting, and their deepening relationship is more gripping than the main story on occasion.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Kerry Shale?
Not through choice. If his was the only version of a story that I really wanted to listen to, then I would, but I would always choose another narrator if possible. His female voices are particularly bad here, like someone doing an impression.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did, purely because it was so short. Chasing the killer makes for an exciting story, but it is not quite up to Jeffery Deaver's usual standard.
Any additional comments?
I hope the next Lincoln Rhyme thriller (which features another series character, Kathryn Dance , making her debut) makes up for this slight disappointment.
As a fan of Deaver I thoroughly enjoyed this book which is written with his usual flair. The characters came to life under the narration. Well worth downloading.
