Publisher's summary

It begins with a singing and dancing septet in dusty church halls. But it is not the sisters’ dancing that fills the seats: it is the torrents of hair they let loose at the end of each show. And their hair will pull them out of poverty, to the salons of Dublin and the palazzi of Venice. It will bring some of them love and each of them loss. For their fame and fortune will come at a terrible price...

Critic reviews

"Michelle Lovric is devilishly clever, fiendishly comic and generally just an irresistible novelist. I delighted in every page." (Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love)
"Has a swagger and style that makes it an enjoyable read." ( Sunday Times)

Great Listen

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, yes, yes! It's one of those rare books that has you counting the minutes to when you'll be able to get back to it, whilst feeling a little sad that each minute listened to means you'll have less and less time in the company of the Swiney Godivas.

What other book might you compare The True and Splendid History of the Harristown Sisters to and why?

It doesn't remind me of any other book. It's an original.

Which scene was your favorite?

No one scene stood out for me. Although it took me a few chapters to get into it, once I was hooked, that was it!

Who was the most memorable character of The True and Splendid History of the Harristown Sisters and why?

Too hard to choose. Caroline Lennon does a fabulous job of all characters, but for me, her Darcy Swiney was spectacular.

Any additional comments?

This is definitely a book I will listen to again, and I would recommend it to just about anyone.

more story than an epic.

the story is far deeper and intriguing then you might think at first. The narrator is amazing. from Irish, to French to Italian, she never falters, never stumbles, it's a true performance, that enhances the story. I'm so glass I finally grabbed this title from my wish list, it's been there over two years.
