Publisher's summary

The irrepressible, audacious defence barrister Horace Rumpole whose court scenes are proverbial, and whose home is ruled by Mrs Rumpole, is back in these short stories by John Mortimer. The much loved stories were adapted from his scripts for the hugely popular TV series of the same name.

I love Rumpole

If you could sum up The Trials of Rumpole in three words, what would they be?

I'm completely biased.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It kept me settled way back in my easy chair. Like listening to an old friend.

What about Bill Wallis’s performance did you like?

I had no sense he was seeking my approval. In this respect, how like the great barrister himself. A lot of mumbling under his breath as to the Old Bull.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I love it when Rumpole allows himself to feel real affection for,

Any additional comments?

I have heard a number of narrators do Rumpole and somehow I've been able to get very comfortable with all of them.

Always entertaining

Having worked through most of the available collections on Audible I can attest to great pleasure and amusement from John Mortimer’s creation.

... There is Nothing New Under the Sun

If you have seen the Rumpole of the Bailey television series you will find these to be a simplified version of those episodes.

Delightful

More adventures of Horace Rampole. This never gets old. And never repeats itself. A real joy.

Sarcastic, witty and brilliant

I have 4/5 for narrator because I thought Patrick Tull performed the character of Rumpole sightly better, but in reality this is superb. All the voices are great including Rumpole and the stories are interesting and characters hilarious with a nice message in each one for those of us who aren't great at the whole symbolism thing...
