Publisher's summary

In the early hours of a summer morning, a young woman steps into the path of an oncoming bus. A tragic accident? Or suicide? At the center of this puzzle is Adrian Wolfe, a successful architect and grief-stricken widower, who, a year after his third wife's death, begins to investigate the cause. As Adrian looks back on their brief but seemingly happy marriage, disturbing secrets begin to surface.

The divorces from his two previous wives had been amicable, or so it seemed; his children, all five of them, were resilient as ever, or so he thought. But something, or someone, must have pushed Maya over the edge.

Fans of Liane Moriarty and Jojo Moyes will be captivated by this riveting family drama with a dark mystery at its core.

my review

this is a eye opening book to remind people that actions have consequences and everyone needs to man/woman up and own up to their mistakes

Pretty good story

Not really Thriller. I think that s in the description. But it was good. More of a drama type story.

Excellent Performance

The book ties itself together pretty neatly at the end so the story isn’t terribly surprising. A solid listen in that regard. However, the narration is amazing. Though a single narrator, each character has a distinct voice and pacing so that it sounds as though there are 10+ narrators. What a craft!

Good read

I’ve listened to 5 of her books now, this was probably my least favorite solely because I felt like the story could have been done more concisely. I did enjoy it but more predictable than her other stories.

LISA JEWELL...NEVER DISAPPOINTING

TRYING TO UNDERSTAND WHY ONE MAN, ADRIAN, LEAVES ONE BEAUTIFUL WIFE FOR ANOTHER COULD BE JUST A VERY BORING TALE, BUT ADD A DEATH OR PERHAPS MURDER OF THE THIRD WIFE BY THE MAN'S OTHER WIVES OR CHILDREN, THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING. IT WAS A" GRIPPER OF A NOVEL", DOWN TO THE FINAL CHAPTER......WHO DID THE THIRD WIFE IN ?...... WAS IT REALLY AND ACCIDENT?

READ IT AND ENJOY THE TWISTS AND VISUAL PICTURES PAINTED BY A MASTER AUTHOR, LISA JEWELL.

New viewpoint of divorce

Although sold as a murder mystery - it takes the reader into a delightful family and creates a place we grow to love each member. Then it takes us behind the scenes so we can see what they do when doors are closed and by the end opens our hearts to feel why. Amazing book. Not an action bk but one that will haunt you as one continues to consider and understand the story long after book is put away.

Never fails To deliver

Lisa Jewell crafts fiction with deep emotional intelligence and that’s very difficult to do. In effect she writes domestic thrillers and mystery which includes all the suspense and dopamine overdose the genre induces while still keeping her feet on the ground. That’s very important. And it’s very hard to do. And that’s why I devour everything she writes.
