Publisher's Summary

Australia, 1946: 650 brides are departing for England to meet the men they married in wartime. But instead of the luxury liner they were expecting, they find themselves aboard an aircraft carrier, alongside a thousand men.
On the sun-baked decks, old loves and past promises become distant memories, and tensions are stretched to the limit as brides and husbands change their minds. And for Frances Mackenzie, it soon becomes clear that the journey is more important than the destination....

Brilliant Read

Another fantastic audio book from Jojo Moyes, I have listened to this book on my numerous journeys to and from work, to all my numerous appointment and always I have been able to enjoy what I've heard to get away with the moment...... I can't wait for the next novel. Thank you Jojo I think I've earned the write to call the author by her real name 😊😊📕📕

Good Story

I loved the story of the fictional Australian brides sailing to England on an aircraft carrier, based on a factual event which took place after WW2. Not sure that the Indian prologue was really necessary but it tied in at the end and resolved the story. I did not find the narration as appealing as the story. When attempting to portray the broader Australian accent, the narrator sounded more Kiwi than Aussie ... not surprising as I have researched her and found that she is indeed a Kiwi. I'd recommend the story if you can deal with Aussies sounding like Kiwis.

Not my favourite from this author

I’ve read lots of Jojo Moyes and love her work. This one was good but not her best. I think there were a few too many characters so it took me a bit to get them all straight in my head. But it was an interesting story and was resolved well in the end.
