Retelling of Robin Hood with a Female Lead

Robin Hood was one of the first fairy tales I ever heard growing up, and because of this, it has a very special place in my heart. I love retelling of Robin Hood, but finding good and unique retelling is hard.

I was immediately swept into the story and just loved the characters. The heroine Robin is empowering and a role model for women of all ages. I loved the relationship between Robin and Daniel, who are both leading groups to fight the same cause. There were enough changes to the story to keep it interesting, unique, and kept me listening. This story was very hard to put down. I cannot wait to see where the series goes.

Carolyn Kashner did a great job with the narration with clean and distinct voices.

Inventive take with a nod to an old classic

It's not hard to see the parallels between this book and the tale of Robinhood. The difference is that Ms. Clarke places a strong, independent female in the lead role. Set in a time when women were hardly ever considered for anything outside of the home, Ms. Clarke has crafted a wonderful story providing young girls with character they can look up to. Full of humor and action, this book moves along quickly and makes for a great weekend read.

I was provided with a free copy of this audio book for my honest review. The views expressed here are entirely my own.

Great Story- Kept me Engaged

This is my first book by the author and I thoroughly enjoyed this story so it won't be my last. I particularly enjoyed the female Robin Hood theme and it was great to see Robin develop as a rebel leader and a woman in her relationship with Daniel. I liked how she balanced her two identities. I'm interested in reading more in this series, so book 2 is on my wishlist.

I must also mention that the narrator did a great job, I enjoyed the different voices ;)

Rebels and Rouges

King Rupert of Cordovia has driven his Kingdom into poverty while raising taxes. There are two groups – Robins Rebels and the Freemen – who in my opinion have the same goal. They end up banning together to defeat King Rupert.

Daniel meets Robin at the local market and feels an instant attraction. Although, at first Daniel only knows her as Marie.

Mrs. Clarke does an excellent job giving a physical description of her characters. This book has lots of adventure, humorous situations and a sweet, passionate romance. Carolyn Kashner gives a delightful performance doing a great job with the accents.

An Adventurous Romance!

The Rebels of Cordovia is book one of The Rebels Series. It is a story of an adventurous romance between its two main characters, Robin Marie (who is leader of Robin’s Rebels) and Daniel (leader of the Freemen). It begins in a time of turmoil for the country. Cordovia’s leader, King Rupert, is a wicked king who does not care about his people, but instead taxes them into poverty. Groups, including the Freeman and Robin’s Rebels, are formed to help aid the people and fight against the controlling government. Robin Marie and Daniel meet by chance, when he stops by her father’s bakery. He is immediately smitten by her, not knowing that she is the leader of Robin’s Rebels (a group that he is trying to merge with The Freemen). The story follows them as their relationship progresses and Daniel learns Robin’s true identity. They learn that working together is the only way to truly beat King Rupert and his men. The Rebels of Cordovia is an exciting story that is full of surprises! The narrator also did a phenomenal job. The words were all spoken very clearly and it was easy to understand.

Great start to the series!

Sometimes I need to sit back and enjoy a good romantic adventure. This spin on Robin Hood was just the medicine I needed! Robin is the leader of the group of rebels, looking to secure the freedom of their country. Daniel too is the in charge of a larger group, and he would like to merge the two. A wager is set for the merger, and lo and behold, when the two are up against each other, Daniel recognizes Robin to be the woman, yes I said woman he met the other day. Robin is a wonderful character. I love her spunk, her independence and ability not only to out perform many of the men, but at the same time be a woman. It's refreshing to have a character like her. I fell fast for Daniel. He has his goals set, his heart in the right place and will do anything to make right the wrongs that are in place. There are a few twists and turns in this story, meeting characters of ill repute as well as finding out true identities. It's a fun, romantic listen and shoots all those good feelings straight to your heart. Carolyn Kashner does a wonderful job with the many voices and brings this exciting adventure to life.

Robin's Rebels

Daniel and Robin are leading separate groups of rebels with the same mission: to secure their country's freedom. As their groups unite together to try and overthrow the king, we see Robin and Daniel's relationship come together too.

We can anticipate some aspects of the novel, like the inevitability of a relationship between Daniel and Robin; however, there are a number of things that we definitely don't see coming AT ALL.

It is always a pleasure to have a strong and confident female main character, and Robin definitely fits the bill. I also love that Robin is versatile and can be sort of "tomboyish" or classy.

There is also good amount of action and a healthy dose of adventure throughout this light clean romance. Great quality writing, with an interesting plot.

Carolyn Kashner does a great job narrating, as usual!

Looking forward to the next by this author and narrator duo!

The Rebels of Cordovia

What a sweet and endearing tale. Clarke combines an exciting plot with intriguing characters for a definite winning start to this series. I loved how the underlying theme of morality shines through without overpowering the plot of the tale. At the same time, the characters themselves are such god people that you can't help but fall in love with them. Throughout the entire tale, Clarke's inviting voice shines through, inviting readers deep into the troublesome world that her characters find themselves living in.

This is definitely a fairy tale with a twist (or four). It's a heartfelt tale that will be fun for all ages.

Very enjoyable listen...

Would you consider the audio edition of The Rebels of Cordovia to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the book, only listened to the audio version. I like audio books because I can multitask while also listening.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the fact that it was clean. It wasn't full of graphic sex or violence, it was just a good story with good character development.

What about Carolyn Kashner’s performance did you like?

I liked the fact that she actually gave the characters their own voice - to me that's a sign of a good performance, when you don't have to figure out who's talking (again).

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This story is compelling and there have been times where I almost wish that my commute was slightly longer so that I could find out what would happen next, sadly, I just can't listen all at one time.

Any additional comments?

This is a solid book and I am looking forward to the next book in the series. My only "complaint" is that the characters seem a little too perfect, but then again, no one wants to listen to an extremely depressing book, and the characters where very entertaining overall.
