Publisher's Summary

Once again, as she did in Interview with the Vampire, Anne Rice reveals the startling world of the undead. This world of dark pleasures and glorious decadence comes to life in a tale that takes you back 6,000 years to the shocking creation of the first vampire - Akasha, Queen of the Damned. Akasha's story unfolds across the ages and around the world - from dawn of civilization to the present day, from Egypt to the Himalayas, to Paris, Peru, and finally to California. There, Akasha faces her ancient, vengeful enemy, and the fate of all the living dead - and all the living as well - is decided. Here is a tale hypnotically, chillingly told. You have to hear it to believe it!The Queen of the Damned is Volume 3 of The Vampire Chronicles.

Poor recording quality makes this a poor choice

I have been an Audible subscriber for over a year now, and this is by far the worst sounding book I have purchased to date. Even downloading it at quality 4, it is distorted with static and tinny. I wish that I had listened to the sample before purchasing this book as the quality greatly effects the emersion of one in the story.

Best of the series

If you could sum up The Queen of the Damned in three words, what would they be?

Best in series

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Queen of the Damned?

When the queen confronted the mountain top vampire in India

Have you listened to any of Kate Nelligan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

n/a

Who was the most memorable character of The Queen of the Damned and why?

The queen herself because as evil as she was, you could understand her thoughts and reasoning.

Any additional comments?

I know the die-hard Ann Rice fans, at the time of this book's release, hated it, but I thought she'd topped herself.

Not the full book

What would have made The Queen of the Damned better?

If the recording was the full story

Would you ever listen to anything by Anne Rice again?

Absolutely....I have listened to the Simon Vance recording of this book (as well as the previous 2 books in the series) and cannot describe how much better it is

What didn’t you like about Kate Nelligan’s performance?

it jumped around too much, skipped over most of the story, the music ran over the voices making it difficult to hear and the "sultry" voice was not appropriate and make it awkward to listen to.

Any additional comments?

Do yourself a favour and buy the Simon Vance recording instead
