Editorial reviews

H. W. Crocker takes a cast of absurd characters, an old British General, sexy California beach bunnies, and Jamaican drug dealers and throws them together in this side-splitting comic affair. Performer Graeme Malcolm's dry English accent and understated demeanor only serve to increase the already hysterical situations that occur as Crocker's incongruous characters collide on the mean streets and beaches of Southern California. Fraught with hilarious cultural misunderstandings and even danger, The Old Limey brings non-stop laughs.

Publisher's summary

What happens when a reactionary, retired British brigadier general comes to Los Angeles looking for his missing goddaughter? Comic chaos, that's what, with California beach babes, Jamaican drug gangs, and other colorful characters feuding, fighting, but not quite fornicating, in a mad search and rescue operation.

entertaining Brit in America

this is a rather fast moving entertaining Old British General in America story. it's a bit like a Donald Westlake comic caper story with a little of the daydreaming Walter Mitty/Don Quixote unreliable narrator tossed in. at times its very funny as he attempts to navigate LA while searching for his god-daughter. & the narrator is very good and I hope he does more British narratives.

Incrementally Boring

It's a non-story as another reviewer noted. The ingredients for amusement are all there, and the narrator was excellent. However, because the same scene is repeated in different locales - the old and un-modern Englishman searching for his goddaughter with two beautiful bikini-clad helpers - it became slowly but certainly boring. After the third or fourth repeat it ceased being amusing in any way and became tedious. I quit halfway through.
