I simply enjoyed the story! I am most grateful to Eve Matheson, who does not over-play the parts, as I felt was done in the Reluctant Widow. Matheson gets the wit and irony just perfect.
In the story, two admirable and intelligent lovers get star-crossed and find their way again through their own decency and common sense as well as the the help and hindrence of various other characters. And a separate scene between Tiffy and Lawrence -- shallow and self-centered throughout -- is worth reading for. I found myself laughing as Heyer continued to reveal new levels of their self-centerededness.
In any audio book, I want an author and a narrator who develop characters that I increasingly grow to like or at least understand. For a love story, this was great.

Heyer at her marevelous, amusing, historically accurate best. In The Nonesuch she overturns one stereotype after another, and just when we think we have all the characters sorted out, she offers a startling glint of sympathy for some provoking character, or silliness in someone generally wise. Eve Matheson's excellent reading helps keep me chuckling; I notice new humor each time I listen.

I was so surprised by the previous comments. I thought the narration was very good compared to some of the Georgette Heyer books I have purchased. She managed to bring the characters to life and made me smile with some of the humorous passages. Will listen to again. Well done. Perhaps she can read Arabella which is one of my favourites and not yet available

I love Georgette Heyer although or possibly because all her books have the same elements: impossibly splendid hero who is a very pink of the ton, an unlikely heroine, a glamorous rival, misunderstandings galore, epic descriptions of cravats, landaus and everyone's clothes. The thing that sets Heyer apart is the impeccable research, splendid use of Regency slang and the fact that they are cracking good stories and immense amounts of escapist fun.
All they need is a good narrator and Eve Matheson does just fine.
A cup of tea, a slice of cake and some Georgette Heyer. Bliss.
But, Jeez, that cover is grim. What were they thinking?

If you love a good romance with a twist. Especially an historical one, then you will more than likely enjoy this book.
I read these books many years ago and loved them. Now listening to it brings back all the romance.

The Nonesuch sparkles with comedy and an authentic look at Regency society. With a large cast of characters Eve Matheson provides gifted accents and wonderful variety to this performance. Very satisfying listening.
