Authentic Journeys Through the Night

It's funny, I started reading Barbara Lockhart's wonderful collection of short stories and I thought, "Wait, I feel like I know these people". Well, you know I just might! Everyone in these stories seemed to have flaws and many were bewildered by their circumstances. You know, everyone I know, even my family has blemishes. In one story an old guy lusts after a young women who buys his farm-raised strawberries, which leads him to come to some sort of understanding with his wife that changes the direction of his story. In another Grandmother is attending a birthday party for her 5 year old grandson and confuses the kid by giving him an antique trunk.Complicating things further, Grandmother's ex and his young wife are present. In a third a man attends contra dances and waltzes with many women looking for love. Instead he invites a women, who he finds not particularly attractive to his house for the weekend.

In my own life I have received gifts that were confusing, I have been invited to parties where I had to awkwardly deal with ex girlfriends, yes and even an ex wife. Also, I have stepped on many a toe and went the wrong way at contra dances upsetting many a partner. Many of Barbara's stories take place in rural settings on the Eastern Shore, places I have visited and loved. No kidding! Pick up this wonderful collection of stories. You will not be disappointed. They are full of charm and wonderment. They kind of reminded me of my own stumble through this life.

Great Summer beach read (or any time read)

The Night Is Young is a wonderful series of short stories set on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Barbara Lockhart's characters are true to form and she weaves her narrative like a spider weaves her web. All too soon find yourself ensnared, but this is a good thing. It is also be an emotional roller coaster, but just hold on and you'll enjoy the ride.

Barbara Lockhart will transport you to another time and place.

Barbara Lockhart’s collection of short stories is masterfully written and magically detailed. Her description of people, relationships, and objects made me experience her stories in a way that was both familiar and unique.

BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN COLLECTION OF SHORT STORIES...

I adore this beautifully-crafted selection of stories from Barbara Lockhart. It's a wonderful read, and since I'm from the east coast I can definitely relate. Small town living at it's most brilliant, she takes you there and make you feel oh so comfortable. I loved listening to this, for both the writing and narration. Great, great stuff. I'd definitely recommend it :)
