Publisher's Summary

In the heyday of the British Raj, Anahita becomes Princess Indira’s official companion, and accompanies her to England just before the outbreak of the Great War. There, she meets the young Donald Astbury – reluctant heir to a magnificent, estate – and his scheming mother. Eighty years later, Rebecca Bradley, a young American film star, has the world at her feet. Her latest role, playing a 1920s debutante, takes her to the now-crumbling Astbury Hall…

A Great Story with a Superb Performance!

Loved this story for the obvious reasons...romance, history, past vs. present...it's all there. In my humble opinion, this is the perfect recipe for a great AUDIObook: lots of great stories out there, but the narrator makes this awesome! (So many narrators today are annoying and just plain bad! They over-enunciate and are flat and boring.) Ms. Srinivasan really brings this to life.

Historical romance at It's BEST !!!!

What did you love best about The Midnight Rose?

I love the format of "then" (1918) and now and how gracefully Lucinda Riley's words dance between the two separate time periods. Midnight Rose provides a perfect balance of historical facts mixed in with a heavy dose of romance !!!!!!!!!!

What does Anjana Srinivasan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She has a wide range of charater voices and does of perfect job bouncing between the tight repressed voices of the Brits and the emotionally abadoned voices of the indian characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any additional comments?

How long to we have to wait for the next Lucinda Riley book ???

She is on my list of FAV's !!!!!!!!!!!

A Beautiful Love Story with a Difference

What made the experience of listening to The Midnight Rose the most enjoyable?

The narrator was extremely good, taking on the various accents brilliantly. Plus the story was so fascinating I couldn't stop listening

What other book might you compare The Midnight Rose to, and why?

The Orchard House - because it too went back in time and to an exotic location - another beautiful story.

What does Anjana Srinivasan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

She has a lovely clear voice, very concise and read it at just the right speed. Very good at all the different accents. Her narration brought the story and people to life. Would definitely recommend her.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me cry and sad as Anahita didn't know what a wonderful life her son had and also because there is nothing worse than losing your child for whatever reason

Any additional comments?

Lucinda Riley does write wonderful books, with just the right amount of romance and mystery, and her descriptions of places and people are amazing. Love her books.

Did enjoy it but a bit longwinded

I thought the narrative was really good and it kept my interest in the story. This is the first book I have read by Lucinda Riley and I would try another. It was likened to books by Kate Morton which I really love. I would have to say it was nowhere near as good as Ms Morton. It was a bit longwinded in places and could have been shortened and been just as effective. I did enjoy it though and would recommend it.
