Publisher's summary

The Listening Book is a thought-provoking and beautifully written challenge to the way in which we live our lives in a complex world. Through a set of parable-like short stories, Webb offers us an innovative and creative insight into God's word and, while being engaging and captivating throughout, the stories never lose their subtlety and charm.

These tales are an exploration of some of the ideas we find in the Bible, with each one carrying the essence of God's word. Webb uses his background in Bible teaching to combine both scriptural integrity with an enchanting written style to create what is, without doubt, a unique and perceptive book.

In addition to being beautifully written, The Listening Book is stunningly presented; this book's easily worded style makes it accessible to both young and old alike.

The Listening Book aims to present some of the concepts found in Christianity in a new and intuitive way and, with themes ranging from love to evangelism, it really does have something for everyone.

A Little Confused

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend if they just wanted to listen to some short stories. I am not sure what the author wanted me to learn but the stories were good.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

All of the stories were enjoyable.

What does James Webb bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He does a great job with his narration. He pauses where needed and makes the listening experience pleasant. He has honed the skill of reading an authors words so they are not disjointed with pauses where they should not be as some narrators do.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There was not one in particular.

Any additional comments?

I started listening with one purpose in mind but soon lost that purpose and just enjoyed the short stories.

Interesting parallel to the Bible

This audio book was interesting, but different. I enjoy reading and listening to books that are about the Bible and this one didn't disappoint me. The stories gave me a little more understanding of parts of the Bible. Since James Webb narrated as well as wrote the book, I thought that he gave the audio version more meaning than another narrator would. His voice was smooth and easy to listen to.

Thought-Filled Shorts That Parallel the Bible

I enjoyed listening to this audiobook. It had many short stories that were meaningful and insightful for a deeper meaning of the Bible. There's nothing heavy, it's subtle as the blurb says but it's easy to understand. The stories all relate back to life and how we perceive it. I found this book relaxing.

James Webb did a great job not only writing these stories but also narrating them himself. I love hearing an author read their own book when they have a nice voice and he does. He has a nice, calming voice that I found refreshing.
