Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Robyn Carr creates an emotional and uplifting ensemble of characters in this rags-to-riches-to-rags novel about women, friendship, and the complex path to happiness.

In the aftermath of her financier husband's suicide, Emma Shay Compton's dream life is shattered. Richard Compton stole his clients' life savings to fund a lavish life in New York City, and, although she was never involved in the business, Emma bears the burden of her husband's crimes. She is left with nothing. Only one friend stands by her, a friend she's known since high school, who encourages her to come home to Sonoma County.

But starting over isn't easy, and Sonoma is full of unhappy memories, too. And people she'd rather not face, especially Riley Kerrigan. Riley and Emma were like sisters - until Riley betrayed Emma, ending their friendship. Emma left town, planning to never look back. Now, trying to stand on her own two feet, Emma can't escape her husband's reputation and is forced to turn to the last person she thought she'd ever ask for help - her former best friend.

It's an uneasy reunion as both women face the mistakes they've made over the years. Only if they find a way to forgive each other - and themselves - can each of them find the life she wants.

Neat and Tidy

It was a pleasant audiobook. A little predictable. Storyline not too deep. Reminds me a little bit of a Hallmark movie, in the form of an audiobook.

Enjoyable Distraction

Kudos to Ms. Carr for making the work of a domestic cleaning service interesting. I had previously not given much thought to the process of cleaning another person's home, or what this could reveal about those who live there.

As always, Ms. Plummer's narration was solid.

✫✫ 4 Stars ✫✫

I grabbed this audiobook because I love Robyn Carr and Therese Plummer and this book was exactly what I expect from these two. I really enjoyed this story and loved how we actually kind of get two story's in one.

This book starts off with tragedy for Emma and takes us on the path to rebuilding. Emma was a great character, she was so strong. I love how she wanted to just have a little normal in her life. She didn't want anything from anyone and was afraid to bring anyone into her life drama. Her relationship with Adam had me in love from the first encounter. Then we also get Riley's story, Emma's ex-best friend. Riley was damaged emotionally but she was a great mom and boss and she was really doing well for herself. I'm glad we got to see her work through her past and in the end these two women come full circle. Another great feel good story from a great author.

Theresa Plummer is the queen of narration in my opinion. I buy audiobooks just because I see her name on them!

Good Story. Entertaining Enough.

This was a good story and I enjoyed listening but it was very close to "Swept Away" by Robyn Carr. I guess I listened to them too close together. Seems almost like the same story. But I would still recommend.

CARR/PLUMMER ALWAYS A HIT!!!!!

There aren't many books by Robyn Carr that I haven't listened to in the past. Therese Plummer's narrating skills always makes me feel like I'm coming home. It's a warm and cozy sensation that I sincerely can't explain. As usual, I was sad to have this book end. I think it's the ending on most of her books that fulfills and satisfies within. Robyn...PLEASE keep writing...and could you hurry a little?

The CARR/PLUMMER team never disappoints!

Can it get any better?

I gasped. I got misty. I laughed. I got angry., and everything in between. Everything I want to happen in a book.

Nicely done!

This was an easy listen. Loved the characters and would listen again to a follow up book to see how they are doing. ☺️ Gave me a new perspective about innocent family members that get caught up in scandal.

Another great story by Robyn Carr

What a giving story, it had its challenging moments, but it was still a story about forgiveness and love, and it will make you feel good at the end.
There are few authors that I automatically buy and listen to because they are real and uplifting stories with caring and loving people in them and Robyn Carr is one of them. I start with Virgin River and have read almost all of her stories and have never regretted it.

Predictable

Would have loved more twists and turns. The characters were not complex or even that interesting. I did finish the story to the end though and glad it had a good ending.

Not Proven vs Not Guilty. Not the same thing.

Our heroine has been hurt repeatedly by friends, family, and her husband. Now, she is alone, broke, and hated by the people her husband ripped off. No one, especially the government, believes that she could have been so oblivious to her husband's business. Going home seems like a reasonable thing to do, but starting over is hard to do. I admire the heroine's willingness to work, even if it's a menial job. I enjoyed seeing how she gradually builds up her self-confidence, finds love, and clears her name. HEA.

I received a free copy of this audio book. This is my honest opinion.
