Publisher's Summary

Brett Bohlinger has forgotten all about the list of life goals she’d written as a naïve teenager. In fact, at 34, Brett seems to have it all - a plum job at her family’s multimillion-dollar company and a spacious loft with her irresistibly handsome boyfriend. But when her beloved mother, Elizabeth, passes away, Brett’s world is turned upside down. Rather than simply naming her daughter the new CEO of Bohlinger Cosmetics, Elizabeth’s will comes with one big stipulation: Brett must fulfill the list of childhood dreams she made so long ago.
Grief-stricken, Brett can barely make sense of her mother’s decision. Some of her old hopes seem impossible. How can she possibly have a relationship with a father who died seven years ago? Other dreams (Be an awesome teacher!) would require her to reinvent her entire future. For each goal attempted, her mother has left behind a bittersweet letter, offering words of wisdom, warmth, and - just when Brett needs it - tough love. As Brett struggles to complete her abandoned life list, one thing becomes clear: sometimes life’s sweetest gifts can be found in the most unexpected places.

Truly Terrible.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The narrator's tone was off putting and whiny, the plot was unbelievable. I can't think of anyone I'd less like to know than the main character, Brett.

What could Lori Nelson Spielman have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I'm supposed to believe that mother and child were so terribly close...yet she would make the decision to rock her beloved child's world from the grave? At a time when she was already bereaved? A truly loving mother would have had these conversations with her child before she was gone. Anything else is just for shock value. And the idea that some of these goals could be accomplished in a year is just ridiculous.

Would you be willing to try another one of Rebecca Gibel’s performances?

Not likely.

What character would you cut from The Life List?

Brett, unfortunately. Maybe Catherine's story would be more interesting?

Any additional comments?

To cap it all off, they never say what her inheritance actually is...maybe it's supposed to be enough that it's all tied up otherwise with a pretty red bow, but I wanted to know what she got!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Life List to be better than the print version?

Yes, the narrator was perfect for the character!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Life List?

Honestly, every time she ran into the burberry coat man my heart skipped a beat.

Have you listened to any of Rebecca Gibel’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I love her voice and ability to pull you into the characters!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, I cried!

Any additional comments?

Love this story, and it really makes you rethink about your life and goals and how they have changed over time.
