Publisher's Summary

Tommy O'Shea is raising his seven younger brothers and sisters without any help from his drug-abusing father and stepmother. Since he was 15 years old, he's managed to keep the children fed and out of foster care. It takes up every ounce of his energy, and the last thing he needs is romance complicating his life further.
Rookie cop Bobby McAlister doesn't belong in Tommy's harsh world, but Tommy can't push him out. As their unlikely friendship turns into a tentative relationship, they weather the daily storm of Tommy's life with a lot of laughs and more than a few arguments.
Tommy isn't used to trusting outsiders, and he's never asked for help in his life. But when a tragedy strikes the O'Shea family and threatens everything he's fought for, he'll have to learn to do both to recover from the brutal hit.

Good listen

This book is like the anti-Eight is Enough TV show. It is the story of Tommy, the oldest of eight kids who has been given some really crappy parents and has done his best to take care of his seven brothers and sisters since he was 15. This responsibility has left him distrustful and overly controlling about every aspect of his life. Then Bobby, a local cop, steps in and challenges his view of himself. The narrator did a great job in bringing this story to life. The only negative is he doesn't have a lot of diversity in his voices, but somehow it didn't matter. The story is a slow burn to their HEA. It drags a little in the middle until the "event" that changes everything. Overall worth a credit..

We Need More J. H. Knight

If you could sum up The Last Thing He Needs in three words, what would they be?

Infuriating, moving, inspirational

What did you like best about this story?

I really love the way Tommy took care of his family no matter what and the way Bobby stepped in to help.

Have you listened to any of Michael Stellman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Michael is a wonderful narrator and I have many books in my Audible library narrated by him. He seems to get better with each one.

If you could take any character from The Last Thing He Needs out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Tommy. He deserves to be treated and taken care of for a change.

Any additional comments?

So far as I can tell, there are only two books available by J. H. Knight and I have loved both of them. I hope that there are more coming.

Opposites Attract

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Definitely. A really good story with some very believable characters

What did you like best about this story?

Bobby and Tommy's developing friendship.

Have you listened to any of Michael Stellman’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I've listened to a couple of them, and for me, this is his best yet.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Initially, no as it was a little slow to start, but after the first few chapters I was hooked

Any additional comments?

This is the first audiobook I've listened to by this author. I shall certainly be looking for more. Highly recommended

Engaging story!

What made the experience of listening to The Last Thing He Needs the most enjoyable?

A really nice story dealing with a life of poverty, overcoming parental abuse and overall a nice love story. A reasonable attempt made to develop the characters and the story wasn't entirely obvious in all areas, so was fairly engaging. In this genre you always have several obstacles put in the way of the love affair and the issue of trust and making time were dealt with well. The final end obstacle was a bit incongruous with the character but this can be overlooked.
