Publisher's Summary

As teenagers, Poppy Carlisle and Serena Gorringe were the only witnesses to a tragic event. Amid heated public debate, the two seemingly glamorous teens were dubbed “The Ice Cream Girls” by the press and were dealt with by the courts.
Years later, having led very different lives, Poppy is keen to set the record straight about what really happened, while Serena wants no one in her present to find out about her past. But some secrets will not stay buried - and if theirs is revealed, everything will become a living hell all over again . . .
Gripping, thought-provoking and heart-warming, The Ice Cream Girls will make you wonder if you can ever truly know the people you love.

The Ice cream Girls is a wonderful engaging story!

What did you love best about The Ice Cream Girls?

The characters are well rounded and this story is hard to turn off. A frightening account of how teenagers are so easily drawn into a destructive relationship with their teacher who is twice their age and a sadistic psychopath. The narrators brought it to life.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Both girls were my favourites as they were compelling in the unfolding of the story.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

Their voices and the clarity and emotion they brought to their parts.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, but I felt chilled as I come from Brighton.

Any additional comments?

A great surprise story! So glad I came across it.

Interesting read!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definately recommend this book. The story is cripping and the depictions of the two girls/women were extremely well done. Solving the crime itself is not necessarily the center of this book but rather its reasons and consequences. Also the performance was great, I was really sucked into the story because of it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Ice Cream Girls?

The discussions in the cafe between the two women and the desperation of both of them in the web of misunderstandings and fear.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

It really helped me to follow the story and not confuse the two characters as would normally easily happen to me. It enabled for me to enjoy the story more (English is not my mother tongue).

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The events in hospital after Serena's accident.

Any additional comments?

Great book, I'm happy to have chosen it.

Another Cracking Dorothy Koomson Listen

I love Dorothy Koomson, but this is her best yet. The characters are just so believable and REAL. The story weaves back and forth in time, but it is done so well that the listener never loses track - I always knew at what point we were in each of those people's lives all the time.

Because the characters are so honest, even if they are not doing the right thing, I had an emotional connection to them and was willing them to come through in the end.

I understand that The Ice Cream Girls has recently been on TV, so many of you may know the final twist. I was in the middle of listening when I found this out so I made my friends who had seen it keep schtum!

It was worth the wait.

One last comment: The narrators are absolutely excellent. If you've listened to Dorothy Koomson before, you will be familiar with Adjoa Andoh, an exceptionally good narrator. Her skills are complimented beautifully by Julie Maisey and Sean Barrett. They bring all the characters to life in a lovely, recognisably clear way so you always know who you are listening to.

Enjoy!
