Publisher's summary

Following the deaths of her last living relatives, Hetty Deveraux returns to her ancestral home, a crumbling estate in Scotland's Outer Hebrides, with the intention of renovating and reselling it as a hotel. As she dives headfirst into the repairs, she discovers human remains beneath a rotting floorboard in the basement. Hungry for answers, Hetty sets out to unravel the estate's secret - and the secrets of its former inhabitants, including Beatrice Blake, a woman who moved there a century ago with her husband, Theo, a famous painter. Following whispered rumors and a handful of leads, Hetty soon discovers that no one knows exactly what happened to Beatrice, only that her actions have reverberated throughout history, affecting Hetty's present in startling ways.

What a beautiful story!

I love the way the book flips back between the early 1900s in 2010. The duel stories of Beatrice and Hetty weave together to create a lovely storyline. The combination of Beatrice's tragic tale and Hetty's struggle to do what is right in her heart create an enthralling story that I couldn't leave.

Cannot Get Past the Narrator

I found the narrator's style too distracting to actually be able to pay attention to the story.. The lift at the end of each sentence was really irritating, unfortunately. As a result, I cannot comment on the story itself. I've given it three stars for story because Audible requires a rating in order to leave a review.

I'm returning this book. I'll get the Kindle version.

Enjoyed the story and the narration.

I enjoyed the story and the narration. I was however, challenged to concentrate on the story so I didn’t loose the tread.

much better than expected- lovely love story

I would recommend this as a physical book for a 1st read. Something a out physical books make it easier to keep track of characters. the multitude of characters in past and present had me very confused on the story line. Added that you feel dropped into a story well on its way as soon as the book starts off further confused things. I had to do a bit of rewinding to get the story line figured out. that would have been enough to put me off this book, but I found the characters so well developed I didn't mind the confusion and having to "re-ead" a bit. The ending was a bit predictable but I found I still loved the overall journey and felt satisfied by the ending

great Narration! not a fluffy story....

the author is talented and gifted in writing. It is only that I personally prefer tories that are "safe". After menopause, I seem to have become quite settled and make choices that are now peaceful and not too emotionally upsetting. This story left me feeling upset with sadness.

if that is okay with you, then I am confident you will enjoy the fullness of the authors characters.

thank you

Love, Deceit and Mystery!

If you could sum up The House Between Tides in three words, what would they be?

Intrigue, love, heartbreak

What was one of the most memorable moments of The House Between Tides?

The ending was not only a surprise but heartbreaking!

Which scene was your favorite?

The blossoming of forbidden love.

Who was the most memorable character of The House Between Tides and why?

Beatrice's character was not only memorable but I could relate to her heartfelt emotions and pain.

Any additional comments?

The author did a great job of making the reader really experience Scotland both in the modern day and 1910. At several points I thought I had it all figured out and was very surprised by the ending. I would highly recommend this story.

Could Not Get Past Narrator

I purchased the book to read instead. I couldn’t get past the intonation of the Narrator. Her voice grated on my ears. Sorry. Thank you Audible for letting me exchange the book.
The story was wonderful.

Narrator is annoying

I am returning this and buying the book. I think I will like the story. I'm even buying other Audible books by this author that have a different narrator. This narrator is an overdramatic posh accent. Nasal and ends words with an a sound, i.e. fire is said fiah, or brother is brothah.
