Publisher's summary

Thomas House looks welcoming from the outside, but inside real horror awaits. Those who have lived there only last a month or two as pure evil still permeates the house.

Virginia and Tom move their family to what they believe is the quiet country house, but it is far from peaceful. Strange events at the house leave them terrified, events which nearly cost them their lives.

With its horrific past, Thomas House isn't a welcoming home, and resents the people who walk through its doors. Doors open and close on their own, apparitions suddenly appear to threaten, and strange sounds resonate at night.

Something dark and sinister lives in the house and wants them out. Now. When Virginia and her son are almost killed by the evil apparitions, her son takes matters into his own hands.

Fun and Quick Listen

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would. It's bite-sized and can be listened to in one or two sittings/commutes. It feels a tad rushed at the end but is an interesting story of terror that is sold well by the narrator.

Which character – as performed by Lindsey Dorcus – was your favorite?

Both the Lucas and Virginia characters are done well, as are most of the others. My only hang-up was with the priest. That voice didn't work for me, but it's a minor character with a small appearance late in the book.

Any additional comments?

Doing a lot of different voices in a fiction work is difficult to perform well. The narrator largely succeeded. The pacing and Lindsey's storytelling from the narrator's perspective were excellent for conveying trepidation. Without that being spot-on, a terror/horror audiobook lacks the punch it needs. Well done!

This house is a demonic horror 💀

Sinister apparitions leave a family terrified and fighting for their lives.
Year's of negative occurrences leave Thomas house cursed.
This book gave off the same vibe as the television show the haunted.
Even my 15 year old enjoyed listening with me.
This story is well written and narrated.
I hope to hear longer books from Carrie Bates in the future.
I requested this book in exchange for my honest review and I'm glad I got to listen to it.
I would recommend this book to young adults and grown ups alike.

Rushed and generic

I like a good ghost story, and though it's not often one is unique and amazing, they're usually entertaining. This story was short, so I figured, why not?

Unfortunately, the length works against this story. The narrative comes across as a cliff notes version of a bigger work. Important events are glossed over and simply referenced to indicate they happened. Dialogue is clipped and generic, leaving no real development of characters. Even the scenes that are laid out in detail suffer because there's no real attachment to the characters or the events going on.

The final scenes are not only unbelievable, but they don't make a heck of a lot of sense either. Lengthening the story and providing more narrative to build up the world and characters definitely would have helped.

The narrator did a decent job, but didn't really change up her voice or tone for dialogs, which aided in things feeling very generic.

I was provided this audiobook for free in ecchange for my honest review. It's a quick listen, but as I said, I think that works against it. I can't recommend this one.

Good Narration, Not Sure About Pacing

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I think that the ghosts were very aggressive, it went very very fast and I'm not sure about if that worked or not.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Slow it down. Do more to build the suspense.

What about Lindsey Dorcus’s performance did you like?

Very professional narration, no errors in the recording, polished.

Do you think The Haunting of Thomas House needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, just better pacing of the plot elements. It felt like the author was rushing to get it over with.

Any additional comments?

I really thought the narrator did a good job with a short story. :)

I was given a review copy of this work.

Very good

I enjoyed listening very much. It was short and left out a lot of good info, but I guess that's typical when listening to a short story, right? I enjoyed the story and the ending.

Great Book

This is a great book if you love paranormal books. The narrator did an alright job. She could have changed her tone at times to put more feeling in the story.

Short and Sweet and Scary

Would you consider the audio edition of The Haunting of Thomas House to be better than the print version?

The narration did the book justice with compelling horror and scare.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it drew the reader in.

Not Quite Spooky Enough

Any additional comments?

At this point, when I begin a paranormal book I expect to at least be spooked out at some point during the story. "The Haunting of Thomas House" felt a bit generic, a bit rushed and definitely lacked the level of "scary" I would expect. I would recommend this book to readers who like a short, light ghost story but not to anyone who enjoys real horror! Lindsey Dorcus gives a good performance.
